When D'Antoni took over Marshall he basically had 2 maybe 3 DI players:, this was his roster:
Shawn Smith
Chech Sane
DeVince Boykins
Justin Edmonds
Ryan Taylor
JP Kambola
Tamron Manning
Brett Bowling
Austin Loop
Kareem Canty
The 3 DI players would have been Ryan Taylor, Kareem Canty and the still unknown Austin Loop. But then Canty would never play for D'Antoni as he was dismissed from the Marshall program 5 days after D'Antoni took over.
D'Anton's 1st recruiting class was:
Transfers
Stevie Browning (Junior) - Fairmont State, Stevie Browning should have been recruited by Tom Herrion if he actually had an eye for talent. Local kid from Logan WV that scored over 2000 points in HS
Jay Johnson (Junior)- JC kid
James Kelly (Junior with 1 year) - University Miami
High School/International
Shane Hall (Johnson Central HS, KY) - Was at Marshall only 2 weeks before he went home
Aleksa Nikolic (Serbia)
The difference between the 2 programs of Marshall under D'Antoni and Charlotte under Price is that D'Antoni has been able to keep his players for the most part and develop those players. The prime example of that would be Ajdin Penava. The 1st 2 years Penava was a work in progress this year he is avging 17.7 points, 9.3 Rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game. Penava is 2nd in the NCAA in blocks.
