The firing is Judy Rose attempting to deflect away or scapegoat for her ineptness. Local sports radio is ripping her sideways. 28 years on the job and multiple bad hires. What other AD is allowed to make so many bad hires and decisions and keep their job?

Firing is fine, needed to happen assuming season continued on the same path, but the timing is questionable. More bad decisions from a bad AD.

15-16 Transfers
Torin Dorn (Freshman) - NC State
Keyshawn Woods (Freshman) - Wake Forest
2 Grad Transfers - Mike Thorne Jr and Willie Clayton

16-17
Ridell Camidge (Sophomore) - Tarleton State
Curran Scott (Freshman) - Tulsa
Ivan Benkovic (Junior) - Mid American State
1 Grad Transfer - Cameron Blakely

17-18
Quentin Jackson (Freshman) - Tallahassee Community College
Lukas Bergang (RS Freshman - Tyler Junior College
JC Washington (Junior) - William Penn
Luke Sasser (Junior) - George Washington
1 Grad Transfer - Benas Griciunas

That's 9 transfers in a 3 year span and losing 4 to Grad transfers. That's 13 kids (the exact amout of scholarship players a DI program is allowed) cycling in and out of a program. It would be extremely hard to win with this happening.

Don't forget that we lost the entire class of 15 recruiting class which included Ebuka Izunda who is at Miami.

Price came in with literally two players on scholarship. He got White and Davis real late in the process. Price isn't a great coach, but I'm not sure anyone could have made chicken salad with what Price started with.

The problem I have with all this, is that Judy might be in charge of hiring another coach which will absolutely not go well. Same with football. I can stomach another year with Lambert if Judy goes.

Article updated with new comments:

Quote:Mark Price’s firing comes two weeks after the 49ers said they would retain football Brad Lambert, whose team recently completed a 1-11 season. Some 49ers fans have publicly voiced their displeasure recently over the direction the school’s athletic department is headed, particularly in football and men’s basketball.

At recent basketball games, fans have held up banners calling for Rose to be fired. Price said the atmosphere surrounding the athletics department was noticeable to him and the basketball team.

30-42 Price’s record in two-plus seasons at Charlotte

“It definitely had an effect,” he said. “We could feel it. It’s a tough environment. Our players see things, hear things that are going on. It didn’t help us, let me put it that way. It was something we couldn’t control, so we tried to do better and minimize it.

“But it would be silly to say it didn’t have any effect on our program.”

Yep, looks like the deflection move. Not that is wasn't warranted based on the instability he has seen, but I bet it doesn't happen without the fan pressure currently going on.

When D'Antoni took over Marshall he basically had 2 maybe 3 DI players:, this was his roster:

Shawn Smith
Chech Sane
DeVince Boykins
Justin Edmonds
Ryan Taylor
JP Kambola
Tamron Manning
Brett Bowling
Austin Loop
Kareem Canty

The 3 DI players would have been Ryan Taylor, Kareem Canty and the still unknown Austin Loop. But then Canty would never play for D'Antoni as he was dismissed from the Marshall program 5 days after D'Antoni took over.

D'Anton's 1st recruiting class was:
Transfers
Stevie Browning (Junior) - Fairmont State, Stevie Browning should have been recruited by Tom Herrion if he actually had an eye for talent. Local kid from Logan WV that scored over 2000 points in HS

Jay Johnson (Junior)- JC kid

James Kelly (Junior with 1 year) - University Miami

High School/International
Shane Hall (Johnson Central HS, KY) - Was at Marshall only 2 weeks before he went home

Aleksa Nikolic (Serbia)

The difference between the 2 programs of Marshall under D'Antoni and Charlotte under Price is that D'Antoni has been able to keep his players for the most part and develop those players. The prime example of that would be Ajdin Penava. The 1st 2 years Penava was a work in progress this year he is avging 17.7 points, 9.3 Rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game. Penava is 2nd in the NCAA in blocks.

Price had to rebuild from starch with no head coaching experience. He was just given 2 1/3 seasons to turn things around. Now we are paying $1.5 million for him to walk away. Firing a coach in December makes zero sense. Judy Rose is a complete moron when it comes to running an athletic department.

Damn -- $1.5 to a hoops HC "not to coach"

Does Fancher get a bump in his salary, as well ?

After Lutz and Major cashed out we had to one-up them for Price. It's how Judy rolls.

When Price got here, he lost the four kids that transferred, the three pre freshman that decommited, and lost four to graduation. That’s eleven players gone. For several weeks, Price had Braxton Obueze and Bernard Sullivan as his only scholarship players.
We have a decent roster (maybe 15-15, 8-8 in conference). We have three decent recruits coming in next season. Basketball isn’t great, but it’s not nearly as bleak as football, yet Lambert is retained and Price is fired?????

I’m not sure what the thought process or logic is.

Thought process:

"What? Football finished 1-11? Well, we have to do something about that! Let's fire the basketball coach, that'll fix it! Now on to something more important, where is the ticket office going for lunch today?"

That's about the norm for today college basketball world and transfers...First year you would expect guys to leave with a coaching change...

The fact they fired Price and retained Lambert is completely absurd. Judy has to go. She has absolutely destroyed everything.

I saw this happening to the program eight years ago. I said then, "the sound of a bouncing basketball in an empty gym can be deafening." The people must rise up, show up & speak out. This is embarrassing. The action today shows that the leadership are in over their heads.

The leadership has insulted the players, they have insulted a decent family, they have insulted the NBA connection, They have insulted the fan base, they have insulted the players of the past that made Charlotte a special basketball school, and they have embarrassed the school and Conference USA in front of the nation.

Dubois acknowledged the fan unrest about Rose, which has manifested itself in signs of protest at ESPN’s “College Gameday” broadcast, basketball games and around campus, an online petition and even an airplane banner above campus before a football game.

“I see the signs and hear about the changes they want,” Dubois said. “But people flying planes over the stadium to publicly embarrass our A.D, that’s shameful. I hope fans will step back and judge these things after they turn out.

Absolutely ridiculous. Just how long does he expect Niner fans to wait before casting judgement on Judy? Should y'all wait through another decade of failure?

We have 27 years of her as AD and 41 years of her as coach and lower administration official on which to "judge" her. I think that's more than enough to say she hasn't a clue what she's doing.

Good 'ole Chapel Hill Phil. Too bad the fanbases do not have "official" voices. The rich get richer.
