Good sign cause ESPN3 only games can be added to regional networks AND MAC/Sun Belt could be placed on RSNs and open up better slots for us potentially.

How? ATT/DirecTV and NBC both have regional networks still. If Fox owning them wasn’t a monopoly this won’t be either.

this a good sign for the AAC or bad...

Clearly it is bad. Bad for everyone. A you all know, Aresco is just trying to create competition in order to raise the price of the bids for content. This eliminates one of the bidders, as Fox has enough content with the Big 10, Big 12, Fox, the UFC and baseball playoffs. They don't need the AAC to help fill three channels.

Fox may be losing UFC soon.

I wonder if I'll get to watch my Hurricanes games? Because ESPN loves Hockey!

The Justice department files suit against the ATT/Time Warner merger because they might not make content available at all or at the same price to other distributors. Even though its a vertical merger with very little overlap.

Disney/FOX merge creating a massive content creator/copyright holder that is already cutting off access to its holdings to other distributors for its own service and this is fine?

The anti-trust office at Justice might not be without bias.

From AAC TV deal standpoint, Fox was never going to be a factor. I now see the following two options as a real possibility. 4 to 8 million per school, ESPN exclusive, same top level exposure but some of the ESPNU/ESPNews games move to the RSN/ESPN3. Option two NBC/ESPN split the top tiers CBS/CBSSN gets a small package and the regionals cover all the ESPN3 football and basketball broadcast. Also, the regionals could become the home to women's basketball, baseball, and other lower profile sports.

I don't believe this move hurts the American as much as will hurt the Big East in the future as I now see Fox as a minor player in grande scheme of sports and entertainment rights. Fox will still have the NFL and the Big Ten but I can't seem them going all in to keep the Big East basketball. Eventually I wouldn't be shocked to see Fox completely vanish in the next two decades or least reconstituted as just a new network. I believe the NFL rights go through 2022 and who knows if Fox will even be bidding for those right again of if they will have the resources to win.

I think the big winners could be the MAC if their weekend ESPN3 games get moved to the channel currently known as Fox Sports Ohio or Sports Time Ohio. I also believe in today's new TV world that playing on whatever the rename Fox Sports Ohio is potentially worth more to local fans than playing on CBSSN or NBCSN because the local pro teams play on those networks which makes them easier to find for casuals fans and sports bars.

RE: ESPN now own all of FOXs local sports networks
I think Disney is going to be a major streaming media company according to the following excerpt:

But Disney CEO Bob Iger has stressed that the company is looking ahead to a future where people increasingly get their entertainment over the internet rather than through a cable box — and that’s what the Fox acquisition is really all about.

The deal would give Disney 60 percent ownership of Hulu, the streaming service that is primarily known for hosting currently airing TV shows from numerous networks. And Disney has already discussed plans for two of its own streaming services: ESPN Plus, which will offer sports programming beyond what’s available via ESPN’s existing TV channels starting in spring 2018, and an unnamed platform set to debut in 2019 with all-ages content from Disney, Lucasfilm, Marvel and Pixar.

Each of those two services would cost “substantially below what Netflix currently charges,” Iger said today during an investor call. And the Fox acquisition would serve as a massive influx of content that Disney could use to bolster its streaming platforms as well as its traditional linear TV channels.

The only thing that prevents more people like me from completely cutting the cord from cable is ESPN and other streaming channels cannot be dvr'ed due to current contracts with cable and satellite. As these contracts expire look for things to change dramatically. Hopefully the cost will be more palatable than that of cable.

Its not a merger. Its a sale of some assets. That said--its about content. There is nothing stopping anyone from creating new content. Netflix, Amazon, Google are all trying to create new content becasue they are now seeing that simply providing an internet streaming platform isnt worth much if you have no content.

The Sunbelt and CUSA could be winners as well. CUSA has horrible exposure right now. They would be benefit HUGELY from having thier games on Fox regionals rather than the current mishmash of BeIn, Stadium, and CBS-Sports.

its an M&A deal.

My point isnt that the deal shouldnt go through but rather the Justice Department is being inconsistent considering what they asked of ATT/Time Warner and, subsequently, suing to stop them from doing.

It's terrible, now teams that used to be on ESPN some will be relegated to ESPN the Ocho. All the air time will be going to those five conferences and every now and again, a Boise or Gonzaga. The prestige the conference had being on ESPN is now gone mostly.

I think most of the value of the Fox Sports Nets lies in the local/regional MLB and NBA contracts.

Exactly. These are local pro sports networks. It really will have little to no affect on the college game. You might see some formally ESPN-3 "exclusive" content mirrored on the appropriate RSN's...but thats about it. Its largely a non-event for college football and a net positive for any conference with a crap load of ESPN3 content.

Basically what I expect too, Televised ESPN3(insert local name) with whoever were your local FoxSports Net crew were. The only thing that really will be affected is Big East basketball will now have crap coverage besides game of the weeks on FS1.
