Alcohol at W&M Athletics
Lets try to get a better feel for the opinion at large.

Admin: can this be stickied to the important threads section for at least a few weeks (since a lack of replies is likely to render it out of sight)?

I don't think you're going to get many fans against it. I guess the question is if it's profitable for the administration.

Virginia Beer Company is local and run by WM grads, you'd think they'd be willing to do something with athletics.

I'm sure that they would love to get involved. However, it is a business and needs to be profitable for both sides. I would imagine that the budweiser brewery is set up for higher volume where the profit margins might be better.

A major component would also be the deal that can be struck with Campus Dining. Alcohol sales would almost certainly be brought in through Sodexo. They'd handle the alcohol licenses, set prices, etc. Athletic Department (and W&M at large) would get a percentage of the revenue from it.

I'd love to see a local, alumni-owned company, but in our dream world of beer flowing at Zable, the best deal will be with A-B as the athletic department could generate revenue through sponsorships as well as sales.

Where is the option for the free shots that Rocco suggested? I liked that.

FWIW, I'd have voted "don't care" if it was an option. I can't really say I support it as much as I'm indifferent.

Virginia Beer Company, the very successful Second Avenue brewery run by two W&M grads, had their beer served on draft at the huge luncheon tent n the Saturday of Homecoming. So they already are doing business with the College...not a huge step to give them the beer franchise at Zable.

They have wonderful craft beer, by the way...makes Bud and Miller's look like toilet water!

I’ve championed this cause for years. Let’s not forget brightening some of those afternoons and evenings at the Plumeri! Baseball and a toot or two go hand in glove. A cold one or three would enhance the fresh Mexican cuisine if available. Now we’re talking!!!

Send an email to Samantha Huge. This subject has run its course on these pages...endless rehashing of a subject that can only happen through the AD.

Well, this is the beginning of informal data collection and based on the results, Id say that Tribe alums and fans are all for it. As much as I am a Yea on the poll, I am honestly a bit surprised at how lopsided the results are. A little bit of social lubrication certainly helps bring the crowd noise and thus atmosphere up a notch.

Ill pass this small sampling to her and see if that spurs a more formal inquiry.

I'd tell you to pour your beer on your own head, but apparently you drank it all. The '04 game with JMU was a semifinal, not a quarterfinal. And I guess you were blacked out for the '09 semifinal at Villanova.

I'll take care of our new poster when I get home. Apparently, unapproving his hate posts isn't sending a clear enough message.

Interesting article on Citadel's experience with beer sales:

https://www.postandcourier.com/sports/th...8f6b3.html

I know this is what everyone what's to discuss after tonight's MBB game (1/11/18) but it does offer real-world experience.
