He excused himself, his son and staff in advance.
I used to fly in from West Coast for 3--5 BB games per season and buy tickets for 4 youngish family members that live here.
Last year was the first time I didn't.
Yep, add the "lower your expectations" quote and its almost as if he planned this.

Yup. When he said Memphis isn’t what it was 10 years ago, I couldn’t believe he was that out of touch. What coach in his right mind would say that in his first year? Just a couple years prior to his hiring we had a top 5 class. That comment screamed out of touch

RE: Basketball attendance poll
So, if you poll twelve people, two of them check the first five boxes and the other ten check the last box, your result is that 50% go to games. I have to ask, is Saluki your marketing research consultant?

It is his stubbornness that is the problem. He hires someone who could effect recruiting and then puts him in a position where he is not allowed to recruit off campus.
He seems to think that he will coach a few more years and then hand over the reigns to Saul. There is no other reason why he keeps him in the position he is in. Saul is going to be a career administrator. He just does not have what it take to coach and recruit.

RE: Basketball attendance poll
I am seventy now, but i stopped attending in my sixties. After being angry about the coaching at every game for about three years I realized how stupid i was to pay so much money to be miserable. After not going to games for a few years I grew out of the habit that I had started in 1971. I don't have the energy to go to 17 or so games every year anymore, but I will be buying a 12 pack to share with a couple of friends. There is a word for that.

If Tubby believes that he is more out of touch with the state of his situation here at Memphis than I thought. And let me tell you, I think he has absolutely no idea right now. He's a clown.

I bought tickets to support my alma mater. But i have other things better to do then go to games and if it’s on TV I’d rather just watch it from my couch.

I decided to poll our board to see why people are not attending. I admit that i have missed two home games because of events my grandkids are doing this time of year, so let's see what others think.
If you live too far away from Memphis to make home games i have included a choice for that.
You can vote for multiple choices BTW.

I personally believe 100% that the Tubs motives are entirely to put Saul in a position to take over the HC after he leaves. He is blind to how useless and disliked his son in by pretty much everyone.

RE: Basketball attendance poll
So I took the wife and 4 kids to the “battle for atlantis” back when JP was here. Something happened to my “fandom” on that trip. We had just had our asses kicked yet most of the players seemed indifferent. I thought, i just spent all this money to come over here and you @&$&*%# dont care? Why should I care then? The only player that outwardly acted different was Geron Johnson. Love that dude! So the death spiral began... even when we were still relevant. Cant explain it... cancelled my tickets. That excited feeling i used to get during the opening video is now reserved for football. Hope is the answer... followed by results. I miss that feeling for hoops.

To be honest, I think this is part of the problem with college BB. With the the rise of one-and-dones, there isn't as much vested interest by the players in terms of rivalry games. And, for many players on opposing teams, they were prior team mates in AAU ball (which isn't exactly helping). The one thing that differentiated college BB from the NBA was the intensity of the games. Now that much of that is gone, there really isn't much left other than March Madness.

Part of it is a factor of being very busy professionally (late 30s / early 40s is big career time), but the lack of quality opponents is a factor as well.
It is a very underwhelming non-conference slate. The bigger games so far ('Ville, Bama, UAB) are all road / neutral. Wish we had a little more meat on the bone. It's really hard to know what we have as a roster when the teams we are playing as either really good (Bama / Ville) or 150+ (most of the schedule).
Well, all that...and...they're hardly on tv any more.
They've been on TV most nights, correct? Especially if you include ESPN3...
I guess it depends on the definition of "tv". I don't count ESPN3 or Facebook streaming as tv. But if you do, then I think they've been on every night except one.
If you don't, they've been on nationally once - Bama. And they've been on locally about halfish the other games.
