It was amazing watching Battle do that. How can you not get fired up watching that?

Ringing the victory bell on a fine wintery morning with a young lady after a "personal first" for both of us that had nothing to do with NIU athletics.

I do indeed, this was 1972 and based on your screen name you might have heard us before or after we rang the bell! We were both residents of Lincoln Hall.

RE: List a "winter" memory you have while you were at NIU
Winter nights and early mornings tough in DeKalb. Morning workouts in the Convo center, coming out to -20 degrees after running your ass off. Hockey games on the frozen ponds, snowball fights, watching beer nugget trucks being stolen and ran over the top of snow banks. DeKalb was a wonderful place to go to school, but when spring came, oh boy, did it come. I remember the girls walking around in short shorts, music from the dorms blasting out the open windows, but the girls loved the warmer weather!!! Dawn patrol was given to naughty athletes for missing class or doing something dumb. Dawn patrol was a bad deal in winter, BAD. Plus your position coach was not happy being up at 5am in -5 below 0.... I do also remember the parking ladies (Nazis) not being bothered by the cold weather. I had 10 parking tickets to pay before I could get my degree. Ha ha, bastards.....

Blizzard of 2011. Was over a friends house and snowed in so we smoked and watched movies for a couple days straight.

Those winter workouts were nasty...walking to the rec center from greek row at 4:30am in that cold was brutal. Do not miss that.

RE: List a "winter" memory you have while you were at NIU
while not recalling any single winter memory other than a few sporting events - what I remember most is regularly freezing my azz off and the winds walking from Douglas to Altgeld and Gilbert to Fieldhouse in sub zero wind chills. There were no HUSKIE BUS SERVICE so walking to Hillside restaurant in downtown DeKalb was always brutal if you wanted non dorm food on a weekend. Thank god for pizza deliveries in winter.
Many years later my son said of his NIU experience it is the coldest place on the planet.

RE: List a "winter" memory you have while you were at NIU
Lots of fun memories in here. NIU is where it's either boiling hot (no AC in the dorms when I went there) or freezing ass cold... mostly freezing ass cold.
A few of mine:
The 1990-91 NIU basketball season, going to Chick Evans from the dorms, smelling the popcorn outside the building and knowing we were going to see a fun game most every night. Rolled DePaul at a packed field house.
Sitting in my room in Douglas and watching the biggest game of "King of the Mountain" I've ever seen take place on the huge snow pile after the plows had finished clearing out the loading dock area. I watched those guys beat the crap out of each other all evening.
Refusing to go to class in the winter of '94 because it was too damn cold outside for anyone to safely leave home.... then later on they called off classes for the next day and we all walked to Molly's in subzero temps (probably without coats because who really wants to keep track of your coat when you're going to get that piss-drunk)
Various MLK weekends at NIU. I always tell people there are only a few times when NIU (at least in those days) really feels like a proper college campus: Homecoming, MLK weekend because everyone has just been home for a month and doesn't want to run back home, and the first weekend in the spring where it's kind of warm... at least warm enough to pretend that spring is finally here.
