Cal Baptist > Cal Riverside
This article illustrates how really nobody cares about the Big West and their little bus league. I know the WAC has some serious challenges but the WAC teams and their facilities are superior to the Big West. Bakersfields facilities indeed match what you see in the Big West and the stability of the Big West is better than the WAC. I guess if the Big West really wanted to zap the WAC they could invite Cal Baptist. However, in the future I think Cal Baptist is probably a better fit for the WCC. They are non-profit, great market and religious. If GCU ever got rid of the for profit thing I'm sure the WCC would look at them but it's not happening with the For profit.

Bashing on UCR (rightly so). Ignoring the good of Hawaii, UCI, UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara. There's more than just UCR and Northridge. We do have a new coach and sone legit talent coming in.

The Big West has also finished ahead of the WAC in conference RPI three of the last four years, if the current pace holds up this year. 07-coffee3

No one wanted UCR. They were only added out of necessity after Boise and Nevada joined the WAC and you Aggie punks bolted for the Belt.

Of interest, I scavenged this from JD's post on the BW Boards. Surprised you didnt post this yourself here, JD.

JD. You are correct about the other schools that you mentioned. No disrespect intended. The reason the Aggie "punks" had to leave is because football was dropped, remember? This has been the problem with NMSU. I have no doubt our Olympic sports could land anywhere, and I'm sure if GCU and NMSU really wanted to join the Big West, they could probably make a case for it. However, I doubt if either school wants to be there at this time. NMSU is now thinking there is light at the end of the tunnel for its football program. A bowl bid to a pretty awesome venue. The fact that NMSU is only the 2nd school behind Central Florida to sell out their initial allotment of tickets to a bowl as the MWC and Conf USA taking notice. We need to land our football program somewhere. The Aggies and Gauchos kinda had a nice mini rivalry going on there along with Cal State Fullerton who was always good. The Big West were good days and no doubt Bakersfield fits in there. However, the tone of the Bakersfield administration along with you know who on this board acting like they "moved up" IMO is so not true. NMSU, GCU and UVU would probably immediately be competing for a conference championship in the Big West in Olympic sports across the board. I appreciate your positive attitude toward NMSU and us being a part of it again. It just probably does not make any sense right now for either of us at this time.

With Bob Stull gone at UTEP, is there still the same hostility towards NMSU in the same conference as UTEP? I am not in the Soutwest anymore so I can not gauge the vibe.

You know that if the Fullerton president had gotten his way, and the Titans moved to FCS, instead of dropping, the Big West would be very different today? CSUN and UCR are killers man. They don't give a crap, which makes what Bras did all the more impressive.

The Big West could have been an awesome all sports league.

Hopefully....it still can be...
.... What else and I going to say?

Seriously though, speaking of CSUN, my mom's elderly friend and her son have Northridge MBB season tickets. They love it...whether or not they are good or stink! They could care less either way. Nice that they aren't fair weather fans, but on the other hand, it would be nice if the community would make known that they aren't happy with the mediocrity. Now, I'm not saying it IS that way there, I really dont know how vocal the CSUN fans are. But, sometimes I wonder from what I have read on the BW Boards over the past several years.

So basically CBU has money to throw at athletics and UCR doesn't...shocker.

CBU will be good for the WAC, they will push the bar higher like GCU and NMSU does. That pushing of the bar pressured Bako into stepping up its game...that pressure no longer exists.

I used to work on Parthenia about two blocks from CSUN. And went to a few games there. The Drillers have a better gym tbh. Despite that, they've had some success. They used to have a good coach, who got them to the tourney a couple times. I played football with their former baseball coach, he was let go a few years ago by their new AD, just like Braswell. They even had a football team in the nineties, played in the Big Sky. It's just a tough sell to get people interested when the Bruins are right over the hill.

That's cool about your mom's friend, reminds me of you and I. (And your dad) in the early Runner D1 days.

Yah, good times.

We should take in a Condors game. You'd love it. Hockey and beer in Robobank...great stuff!
