Albany doesn't do the stuff that makes the Tigers vulnerable.

Their front line is small: 6'6, 6'6, and 6'7 so Memphis can go smaller with Davenport, Rivers, and Johnson.

They don't have an inside presence on defense and they don't shoot a lot of threes at all. Not much bench--four guys play 28+ mpg.

Their SOS is #302 with a loss to #151 Monmouth and their best win vs. a 6-6 Yale team.

One interesting factor will be to see how Albany does with rebounding and fouling.

Memphis is 9th in the nation in the % of missed offensive shots rebounded and is 30th in the nation in points derived from free throws.

Albany is the 34th BEST team in the NCAA in limiting opponents from getting offensive rebounds and is top 30 in the country in having the least amount of points given up on FT's.

I tried to find information about the tie, but I don't think it happened. A source stated the tie happened during the 1920-1921 season when Memphis first fielded a basketball team and their record was 22-7-1. However, I found another source that said the team was 22-8 that year.

I did find some interesting information during my brief research. Back then, the school was called West Tennessee State Normal School. The team was coached by Fred Grantham, who also started for the Tigers at forward. They played at a high school, YMCA and the Normal Cage. It was called the Normal Cage because it was located in an administration building where the court sidelines was barely 6 inches from the walls.
