Texas hires Chris Del Conte as new AD
From ESPN
TCU's AD has moved to Austin and is reportedly starting work today.
I didn't actually realize that UT was still looking for an AD. Perrin has been on the job as the interim for so long that I just assumed he had been given the role permanently.
It's an interesting move and I wonder if it will hurt TCU in the long run.
That and, as always, one wonders if this gives you any indication as to what course UT will pursue for the future.

RE: Texas hires Chris Del Conte as new AD
Del Conte has already said he wants to restore the rivalry with A&M.
Starting to look more and more likely Texas might be open to realignment in a few years with their new leadership

RE: Texas hires Chris Del Conte as new AD
Quote:Now Del Conte will lead the Longhorns into the future. He’ll have to decide whether to remain in the Big 12 when the television grant of rights expires in 2025. In the interim, the most pressing issue is whether the conference decides to expand.
Under Perrin, Texas lost a significant degree of influence in realignment, but Del Conte’s experience, acumen, and charisma should once again elevate the Longhorns to the position the school previously occupied as a key driver of conference-wide decisions.

Since it is Day 1 on the job, Del Conte didn't have an exact answer or timeline of if/when the annual football game will return. However, he made it apparent the topic will be addressed.
"I think we'll look at that," Del Conte said Monday. "I don't have any comment on that today, but I'll say this. I listened to Coach Brown talk one time on what college athletics is about. It's about rivalries.
“Rivalries in college athletics are so important. The water cooler conversations on Mondays are awesome. I love the Red River shootout, all that goes on with that OU-Texas game. It is fantastic. Those things are what galvanize. When we stayed in the Big 12, it's because football and regional rivalries are so important to the community. I know that. I know that it's important to everybody."
Last article gives quotes from current Texas and A&M coaches who seem open to the idea.

RE: Texas hires Chris Del Conte as new AD
Quote:Meanwhile, Tom Herman made his stance known back in July at Big 12 Media Days.
"We don't play a rival at home, ever," Herman said. "Every other year we played A&M at home, and every year we play OU in Dallas, and those are our two biggest rivals in history. I mean can we try to generate and try to fabricate some new rivalries? Sure. But those are going to be the two main rivals at Texas because they are in recruiting, they are in academia, they are in a lot of things.
"I don't know why we can't play A&M as our marquee, non conference opponent. ... If you're gonna play a big boy, such as USC, LSU and Ohio State, I'd like to see us play the big boy right down the road from us."

I would love it if Texas led the charge into the SEC. With Herman, and I assume their fans, not happy about their home schedule, I think a move to the SEC might make the most sense for UT if they bring along Oklahoma as well.
