RE: LSU game
I have to agree with Mullet and brick. It was obvious from the get go that this is a rebuilding and feeling out year. And I can't say that McGrath's plan will be successful. But I will give him a chance. Even the immortal Dean Smith was hung in effigy his first year. And look how that turned out.
We don't know what McGrath is doing exactly, but there just could be a good reason for what's going on. Wainwright and Brownell seldom had winning non-conference schedules. We may actually be working on just man defense for several reasons. Like getting more experience and improving at man defense for conference play. And just maybe we are not letting our conference does see our zone schemes in advance. That's all speculation on my part, but it just may be true. I'm all about patience as a fan. Something I didn't have when I was younger.

If you can play man it is a far better route to take than bailing out to zone. I am not 100 % against some zone but it makes for some lazy play and letting guys off the hook on one end of the court. It looks like the top 4 players are pretty solid athletes and should be able to handle a tough man to man defense. I am not sold on Richmond at this point but maybe he comes around as he gets more time on the court. None of these players have ever played a tough man defense at the college level but I think they can and should get better. It will make or break the season-gotta get some stops at some point. They all go under the pick and at this level that can't happen or you are gonna get killed. Not sure what they are teaching but they can hedge or switch with everybody except Bryan who has zero chance at guarding anybody with the ball and a dribble. Let it play out and see if they get better.

Regardless of our past, we need to give McGrath a chance.

I get it, and if saw even a remote sign of improvement thus far, i'd be quiet. We haven't seen it, at all, so therefore i still have my doubts. Serious doubts
I understand the frustration but I don't think we have seen UNCW play half court defense for many years and it is not an easy thing to teach. My biggest concern watching them play is pick and roll defense and dribble drive but hey those are really hard things to stop even for the very defenders at the NBA level. Looking for some progress is what we need and I would say show a little patience.

Mullet, Brick, 33, and the Beat and the Beard seem to agree with me.

Guess I'm not on an island all alone after all hoops! 05-stirthepot

Enjoy your Ls, I for one don't like losing. Given you are a Jets, Mets, Knicks fan i suppose you are used to it. Especially when 25% of the way into the season we have as many losses as the entire previous year. Adjust, or continue to take lumps. Proof is in the W/L column, and the fact we have LITTLE progression at all. I'd love to be wrong, but my call on C.B out of the gate is looking more likely than not IMO

This is completely unproductive (not that a message board can be productive). We'll take the wins/losses together because we're fans of the same team. But, your viewpoint would carry more weight if you didn't have your mind made up before the season started. I know you said you were going to give them a chance and hope for the best, but you've abandoned ship with the first sign of difficultly. Your analysis now is nothing more than confirmation bias.

Yes, because I'm sitting here enjoying losing. Jeeeezus man. My post was tongue in cheek and there you go taking it personal.

Let's keep it personal for just a moment then. You're not an alum buddy. I don't badmouth coaches because we've been through rougher times than this. You didn't like McGrath from the start, and I get that. I'm being patient before I make up my mind about him.

A University is more than just a basketball team, so yeah, MAYBE the fact that I spent 4 years as part of the community, and continue to live in Wilmington and work for the athletic department in a part-time capacity, makes me stay on the optimistic side. I won't apologize for that.

I agree with this now, just like I agreed from the moment I witnessed the first game.I stated after the Davidson debacle that it was going to be a long year and was chastised by many for simply being the "newbie" here. These kids are accustomed to a passionate, tough love coach...That is not what we have here now.Im not saying he cant get it done in the long haul with his type of players although I still have my opinion.I also hope and pray this doesnt get even uglier if the losses continue to pile up.

RE: LSU game
And Hoops now I see you edited your post to take out the part about me rooting for losing teams. Not ashamed of that either. I have always been partial to cheering on the underdog.

And why is that? Because when they DO have moments of glory, it's even bigger.

When the Mets and Jets win, NYC shifts to a Mets town, and goes way crazier than when the Yankees win. Because for Yankees fans, its the expectation that they win.

I'm not a Knicks fan. Probably lean Nets there, though I don't care enough about the NBA to call myself a "fan" of the team. Just Mets and Jets as the pro teams I count as "my teams".

BS . The proof is in the pudding. It's not the first sign of difficulty, it's been there from the start and hasn't progressed one bit. I'm not jumping ship. I'll be there to support when i'm in town and will watch and listen. I hope it gets better i really do, but SHOW ME

Not sure what you mean, it's there. I added it initially, not deleted it.
