Late Charge
Now that the question about Norvell has been answered. Will that be enough for the Tigers to make a late charge with some of the top area players?

With early signing day just 11 days away we currently sit 10th in the AAC and 82nd nationally for 2018.

We got a heavy load of 2 star commitments early in the process with 2 stars making up 7 of our 17 commitments.

We really need to put on the full court press with the area players to pick up a few more 3 stars and hopefully a 4 star or two.

Last year we had a very respectable 55th and top 2 among G5 schools. After this season there is no reason we cannot match that number.

BTW when was the last 5 star we picked up in football.

I'm sure now that the dust has settled, Norvell will sign a really good class.

This class will be “smaller” by the numbers as Norvell has stated. It may NOT reflect in the rankings as normally would indicate as some deem “successful”... However, the staff is looking to fill the roster in areas of gr8er impact where players are needed...He also stated that the spots are more limited because of players that were “blue-shirted”, which is a term that I am NOT familiar with...

Here's a quick guide to what each of these terms means, with some more explanation below.

Shirt type On scholarship? Can play? Can practice? Meaning

Redshirt Yes No Yes Athlete sits from competition for a year, then gets another year to complete four seasons. *Most common practice. Represents vast majority of signings.

Grayshirt No No No Athlete waits an extra semester to become a full-time student and part of the team. Traditionally occurs when a team oversigns players or a player needs more class work done. Instead of enrolling for Fall classes, the player delays enrollment until Spring. EX: RB Darrell Henderson.

Blueshirt Yes No Yes Athlete is not formally recruited, but is put on scholarship at start of freshman practice. Traditionally happens when a team has extra scholarships to give and they have a Frosh walk-on that is clearly a D1A talent or a late qualifier joins the team. EX: DB Carlito Gonzalez or DT Jonathan Wilson

Greenshirt Yes Yes Yes Athlete enrolls in school a semester early. Occurs when a player graduates early and forgoes their Spring semester to start their NCAA career early. Often times this option is pursued by the player to learn the system earlier and increase their chances of contributing in the Fall Seaon. Ex: LB JJ Russell

I’ve heard Norvell say that we don’t have as many scholarships to offer this year. So they are being more selective

Don't green-shirts also count against the previous recruiting class numbers if a scholarship was available?

Me either. Tommy turned a great defensive lineman into a marginal offensive lineman.

I think the highest recruit that we ever got was Charles Greenhill. I recall that he was the #1 recruit coming out of HS in the state of TN, and I believe he was listed among the Top 25 players in the country his senior year in HS by at least one publication.

Tim Harris had to be pretty high on the list.
