My ridiculous expectations are, bowl eligible first year, compete for conference second year, 10-11 wins third year and he heads off to a P5 job.
I'd like to see him have that kind of success.

RE: Steve Campbell = Good Decision
According to the article, he's going to run much of what Troy runs. Quick outs to the side, up tempo, power run. On defense three down lineman with a hybrid DE/LB. He's probably run faster on offense than we do since we don't actually run up tempo nearly as much as advertised.

Troy at South should be a good game. Hopefully we can get some revenge.

Hopefully y'all can bring a big crowd like last time, cause, you know, coming to Mobile is the only way your fans get to see you beat us.

In the last 4 years this game has been on a Friday, Saturday, Thursday, and Wednesday. ESPN needs to help us out with some consistency. Put the game on Saturday. End of story.

I think it is a very good hire and I agree that those are the ridiculous expectations. He should have USA in a bowl game most years starting in year two.

Why is that ridiculous? He's a very good coach and USA brings a ton of talent back. USA traditionally finishes 5-7 or 6-6. It's not a total rebuild for the jags. They'll be in a bowl in year one, and compete for a title in year two, if not earlier. Lots of other teams are rebuilding, and many of the teams in the league were not very good this year.

I agree. We didn't lose this year because of lack of talent. We lost because of scheme on offense (or lack thereof). We return 17 starters next year.
Coach Campbell is an offensive mind and we are getting an OC who has coached for some other great offensive minds. It's not like we were getting blown out in every game. We were basically tied with Ole Miss at half, "lost" by 6 in OT to Idaho, had a one possession game with LaTech until the final minutes, lost by 8 to GaSt, lost by 5 to Louisiana and NMSU. If we had an offense capable of scoring just another TD per game, we could have been an 8-9 win team.
From everything I've heard, Campbell is great about teaching his system quickly, so I don't expect us to take too long to adjust. However, our schedule doesn't do us many favors early next year. We open with LaTech and OSU, then have Memphis a couple weeks later. My hope is that by the time conference play starts, the kinks are worked out and we are ready to go. This all also depends on how well he can coach up or recruit new OL for next year. If the OL plays well, I expect us to be a contender fairly quickly.

Might take a year or two for him to get the right guys in the right place but on paper a solid a hire as there can be.

OL is our spot of major personnel deficiency. If we can get that put together, we can have a good year.

Offensively I think they have the pieces. They've had the Wr's and OL for his system. That super fast RB they have would fit right into what he wants to run. They'll need to find a solid QB though. Maybe hit the JUCO circles and bring in a 3-Star dual threat guy.

If you're referring to Xavior Johnson as the super fast running back, he graduated. We do still have a solid running back in Tra Mintor.
We have some really talented WRs. One who I think would have started, if not for an preseason injury,- we stole him from Michigan State days before signing day (he's a local guy from Mobile). However, OL is not our strength at all. I'm not sure if they just didn't have the right "technique" or they are just not good enough for this level, but they were not productive in the run game at all. That is a must fix if we are to have any success.

The QB of the future may already be there. This guy ran the scout team last year as a true freshman and several players say he's the real deal.

He was starting to get a ton of attention before signing day a couple years ago. Fortunately the "bigger" schools held off too long. I have been looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Winning 10 or 11 his third year means winning 7 or 8 in conference and 2 or 3 non-conference. That is a tall order given the history and the lack of an on campus stadium and facilities.
He should be successful but I would agree with the original poster that the expectation should be a little lower.
