19 missed free throws is totally unacceptable at this level of play.
Unbelievable.

Reminds me of 2001-02 and 2003-04, when the Lady Owls were getting top 25 votes and a web pundit - with a track record of getting at least 61 of the 64 bracket teams correct for a long time - picked Rice as an at-large both times. If I remember correctly, each time he got 63 of the 64 correct with Rice being the exception. Those teams easily deserved an NCAA berth, especially the 2001 team that knocked off then-#6 LA Tech. That was a fun game.

I'm happy with the way Rice is playing this season, but getting Top 25 votes is pretty silly.

WKU (6-3) beat Missouri (#16), took Iowa (#25) to overtime, and lost to Notre Dame (#2) by only 13 points. They are a lot more deserving of votes than Rice.

RE: Lady Owls v Incarnate Word
epsnW mid-major rankings

Quote:10. Rice (6-2)

The kind of school where final exams are more challenging than even conference road games, Rice hasn't been on the court much this month, a comfortable win against Incarnate Word the only December result. But after some slips by teams that kept them out of the rankings last time, the Owls move up to claim a place for the first time under second-year coach Tina Langley. A former assistant on some of Maryland's best teams, Langley might be a somewhat familiar name. But not nearly as familiar as that attached to Erica and Olivia Ogwumike, the younger sisters of former Stanford stars Chiney and Nneka. Erica and Olivia are combining to average 31.2 points per game this season for the Owls (Olivia didn't play in the most recent win against Incarnate Word).

That can't be right. They're sniffing a top 25 ranking.

I never thought much of Sagarin’s rankings. WRC, you want to take a midseason cut at a WBB ranking?

Eh, Massey has them at 121. I'd guess that most of the more "advanced" computer systems (your Masseys and Sagarins and the like) are still weighted pretty heavily toward last season.
