Exclamation Perception Change
I am one of those that initially wanted to see how the team looked before I passed judgement. And after watching the games no, I'm not impressed. But I do like some of the pieces on this team so I started to think, WHAT IF this staff was able to bring in Tyler Harris and someone like E.J. Manuel, would that be enough to give you hope that our basketball fortunes could turn around, OR, it wouldn't matter if they signed the 2nd coming of Derrick Rose, would you still want him gone?

RE: Perception Change
Well if he had kids lined up it would help tremendously but he doesn’t and he won’t.

RE: Perception Change
I'd have some optimism if we had a top 25 class.

Our expectations have been lowered so much, though. Everyone is praying that we land Tyler Harris, and that he'll save the recruiting class. He's the 110th ranked player in the country. Pookie Powell was ranked 80th in the nation, and he was an afterthought in that class.

If there's a recruiting class of 5 kids who are all completely gone after 2 years - did the class really exist at all?

Yes, I thought that this was about how recruits were perceiving us a more big time FB program after (a) our national TV appearances (b) Norvell re-signing and © pretty darn nice attendance/hopeful IPF.

RE: Perception Change
Last 6 years of Tubby's recruiting at Texas Tech and Memphis:

2013 Texas Tech - Last in Big 12, 4 players with the 1 3-star player
2014 Texas Tech - 7th (10 teams), 7 players with the 6 3-star players
2015 Texas Tech - Last in Big 12, 4 players with the 4 3-star players
2016 Memphis - 8th (11 teams), 4 players with the 2 3-star players
2017 Memphis - 1st (11 teams), 8 players with the 8 3-star players
2018 Memphis - 10 (11 teams), 1 player with the 1 3-star player

So in 6 years we has gotten 0 5-star players and 0 4-star players. He just refuses to play the recruiting game. If Tyler Harris were to commit he would be Tubby's highest rated recruit since 2011 when he got Andre Hollins. The problem with Tyler Harris is that since he didn't sign in the fall there will be a lot more competition for him when the spring signing period comes around. To be successful you have to be able to recruit. Recruiting is two-fold. One part is getting new players. The second part is retaining current players. Markel Crawford announced his plans to transfer and was never contacted by Tubby to try and get him to stay. All Tubby really needs to do is to hire one assistant that can recruit. Instead he has his son as an assistant who does no recruiting. It was known that Tubby doesn't recruit when he was hired but it was thought that because of all the talent in Memphis they would just come to Memphis anyway. It has been the opposite of that in actuality.

So can you win with 3-star players? You can get to the Tournament but you will never get very far in the tournament. Tubby is really just not a good fit for Memphis. He would be better off taking a job at a school with lowered expectations.

RE: Perception Change
A good question to ask would be: Which perception has changed the most in the past few years: basketball recruits in a negative way or football recruits in a positive way?

I would say football.

The Lawson situation killed local recruiting. I'm not sure he knows that or cares about it.

Not a bad point. But, we did get to the tournament (and won a game) in 2014. That's loads better than where we are currently

Jeff Goodman was on the radio today and said he was at a Kansas practice last week and the Lawson's looked "phenomenal."

It's gonna be flat out depressing watching #1 KU next year with Dedric, KJ, LaGerald Vick, and Charlie Moore out there.

Tubby’s failure is not limited to recruiting freshmen. Nick King wished to come home, but Tubby snubbed him.

We are better off without their “distractions”. Tubby will just “Coach Up” the players not causing him headaches and extra work to return us to relevancy.

How could anyone not be impressed with our football team?

Basketball is on life support right now.
Dr. Tubby and associates need to perform some miracle healing.

Yeah. I guess people didn't see Parks yell at Tuuby when he was yanked from the NKU game or see Rivers cuss at the bench after Martin wouldn't pass him the ball.

That, there, is called competitive spirit.
