Team's bowl attitude
Just reading in a couple different threads how some/most? of the team is not looking forward to the bowl game. This is really disappointing. Maybe bring in some of the guys from the '03 team to tell these players today what a chance to play in a bowl game woulda meant to them back then. Against a recognizable power 5 team no less! And how good the players have it today caus of what that team and other previous NIU teams built for them

Yea if it's true that is very disappointing. Why would any fan want to spend time and money to go to the game, to watch a team that doesn't care?

If only we had a guy like Jordan Lynch available.......

03-idea...Oh wait...WE DO!

Kenny G will be around at some point I'm sure..( at Cincinnati on 12/24)

Wonder if Jake Coffman is in the area or touches base from time to time?

That's true, but many fans go to the game to party, eat, drink, and get drunk. For many, the game is anti-climactic.

I guess, but you can do all that without leaving your house.

There’s a difference in drinking beers on your couch and going to the game and partaking in all the pregame festivities with hundreds of fellow fans. Much more fun.

RE: Team's bowl attitude
All this talk has really soured me on going to the game.

If it is true that William Lee walked out of practice while healthy it is disgusting. I don't think that many/most players appreciate the value of the educational opportunity they are given. It is true that they work hard for that opportunity but the cost of an education today is an enormous burden on most families and these kids are being given the opportunity to obtain a valuable education without that financial burden. If you accept the scholarship you should fulfill your obligations including playing in a Bowl game in your senior year.

For what it is worth there are news stories in Columbus, Ohio about seniors in programs across the nation that are opting out of their Bowl games so it is not just NIU. That said to my knowledge none of the Buckeye players have opted out though the team is very disappointed that they did not make the college playoffs. I do think that this is a cultural issue and that teams that have seniors opting out have poor leadership at the top.

RE: Team's bowl attitude
Whats needed right now is some investigation and study trying to explain why the culture of the football program among players and fans is decaying before our eyes. Someone mentioned this, I think it was Dog Fan a week or so ago, that instead of paying attention to a G5 playoff, Frazier needs to get his own house in order. Can some small group take polls of fans and try to investigate why fan support has dwindled to almost nothing, and then separately someone needs to investigate whats going on with the internal dynamics of the program. To an outsider right now, it really looks like there is no accountability anywhere at this point. Is Frazier even capable of keeping his house in order, he has not made a hire yet, or even done anything in terms of corrective measures to improve things. The trajectory of NIU athletics right now is a terrifying one to me.

MD, stop. Stop this please, others read this board, nothing terrifying with NIU Football. The only terrifying thing this year with regards to NIU Football was the 17 point lead we blew against Chips. Chips to NIU Football is terrifying, Chips=wizards. Lets all come down to earth here, planet earth.

Pretending like nothing is wrong is unacceptable at this point, that's how we got here

RE: Team's bowl attitude
Consider this when either Carey or the team is disappointed at their bowl option. Its the date more than the bowl. 4 of the last 5 years the Huskies have had to play on dec. 23,26,23,26. 4 of the last 5 years the older kids have missed christmas. Like Lee.

Toledo in the last 4 years have had their bowls on the 23,17,22,jan4th.
CMU on the 22,19,28,24. Thats much easier on the kids and their families.

Its been random bad luck that NIU's been picked for bowls that land on these dates, but when they got it again this year I bet it was more of a - It's BS we have to play on Christmas AGAIN!

I agree that it's the date not the destination so much. But just don't be asshats about it and blame the quick lane bowl. If players and coaches wanted Christmas off they should not have participated in college football. I sympathize and agree with their sentiment but they have done damage to the image and fan support through this hissy fit. Please though drop the slogan "the hard way". Lee apparently walked out and I'd imagine a few more players will be "slipping in the shower" between now and then

These are grown adults, if they want to whine about missing Christmas then they should take a long hard look at all out military servicemen and women who are deployed far away from their families in harm's way missing many more holidays than just Christmas.

Anyone whining about the location and the time needs to man up and accept the challenge. Life is not all lollipops, beaches, and rainbows.
