RE: Scientists may have found genetic link to homosexuality
So, what makes the gene(s) recessive in some and dominant in others?

1. It could be a fetish that develops over time. For instance, some people like fat girls. Back in the middle ages, fat girls were the gold standard. In the 80s and 90s fat girls were almost universally seen as revolting. Now it seems to be making a comeback and perhaps even a fetish for the majority among African-American men now. These trends can hardly be explained by genetics. If homosexuality is similar, then the answer is environmental or societally driven.

2. Some may be more predisposed to it and perhaps there is a genetic component to that. Think alcohol. The vast majority of people can have a drink whenever they want with no consequences. Some have one and cannot stop and succumb to alcoholism. There appears to be a clear genetic link to this. I may be able to buy that there is a genetic link to homosexuality in a similar manner... that the genetics makes one more predisposed to this, but if they never take that first drink, the disease remains dormant. Either way, whether the genetics makes one born homosexual or predisposed to become homosexual, the numbers should be going down, even if the gene is recessive, not going up or remaining relatively constant. We'll see.

Logically, I don't think it works that way. I think there would have to be actual sexual attraction before anyone would ever decide to act upon it. Substitute heterosexual man into your hypothesis. Do you think that if a straight guy never kisses a girl that his libido would remain dormant?

I think it is more likely that, in our pure instinctual nature, a strong enough sex drive will lead a man to stick it anywhere that there is a hole. See prison sex. The libido doesn't remain dormant, but the target is may be variable. Libido, or lack thereof is the drive of sex itself and drives people to take certain measures to obtain sex. Those with high libido will make someone that prefers having sex with women to have sex with men for convenience (prison or a straight sex addict that may be willing to cruise public parks for the ease rather than go through the time consuming and necessary steps to notch a woman).

The OP seems to support this:

Quote:The hypothalamus is crucial for producing the hormones which control sex drive, and previous studies have shown parts of it are up to 34 per cent larger in gay men.

In other words gay men have higher sex drives. Most men do not have the looks, money, or game to bed a woman on demand, but it may be more convenient to go the other way.

I think with the love side of it more has to do with upbringing, home life, and psychology. We are really talking about 2 different groups of people. Men that have sex with men due to the physical drive and men that look for emotional connections with men (relationships, marriage, etc). I believe it is possible for a gay man to be in either category or both.

What about a dog that humps a pillow? A leg? Is there attraction there?

We're talking about humans - not animals. Your example would be closest to human masturbation practices, and with that assumption in mind the mental imagery would still involve feelings of lust for someone in most cases. We have the sex hormones coursing thru our bodies that affect libido chemically. I don't believe there is a chemically driven urge to try drugs and alcohol for the first time in order to "switch a gene(s) on".

We have reasoned ourselves out of animalism, but don't you think that deep in our instinctual beings and human nature it is still there? There is a reason we have laws.

You are discounting primitive people and way of life in environment. If Adam was gay would he have “done IT” with Eve?

I agree with this. I think same sex relationships can spring up via a number of causes. Some may have the genetic disposition towards same sex attraction. Others may pursue it out of a desire to fit in and I think others still may be become gay due to environment like a whackjob father, mother, etc.

you'll have to help me out why adam and eve have anything to do with the 'now'? I get what you're driving at.....however, that is irrelevant to the topic at hand today.....

The adam and eve myth has nothing to do with this discussion.

Women drive the sex. If they don’t want a baby they would just as soon you go **** a man. If they want a baby, they will turn a gay man straight. As far as power in sexuality, all the men get is the shaft.

And there you have it.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2017/...cientists/

Quote:Genes linked to homosexuality have been discovered by scientists in the biggest ever study into the genetic basis for sexual orientation.

For the first time, researchers looked at the complete genome - a person’s entire DNA code - for more than 1,000 gay men and compared it to genetic data from a similar number of heterosexual males.

They discovered that DNA was different for gay and straight men around the genes SLITRK5 and SLITRK6.

SLITRK6 is an important gene for brain development, and is particularly active in a region of the brain which includes the hypothalamus.

The hypothalamus is crucial for producing the hormones which control sex drive, and previous studies have shown parts of it are up to 34 per cent larger in gay men.

As gay marriage and adoption become more common. It will be interesting to study the sexual orientation of the adoptive child AND the rearing (no pun intended) of those children. I would suspect gay men might have a different outcome than gay women. Its a worthy course of study. As is homosexuality % based on acceptance and population. Again, primitive people populations should be included in research groups.

Here's where the fun begins.

I'm betting that the gay, transgender, lesbian, bi-sexual, metrosexual, whatever-other-words-they-use-these-days-to-describe-themselves crowd is also overwhelmingly pro-abortion.

When a fetal genetic sample can prove that there's a likelihood that the child will grow to be homosexual as an adult and the parents then option for an abortion because of that, where will they stand on the abortion issue then?

BINGO! As I’ve posted before, homosexuality can only exist if there is a God!

I suspect that the Religious groups and TV groups (are they the same?) would normalize a genetic condition:

I want to be clear when I say I'm pro-choice.......in no way am I pro-abortion.....

one could deem that as a double standard.....however, I do believe for the sanctity of the whole, Roe v. Wade was the correct decision....

it's most definitely a position one never wants to be in either way (inseminated w/o forethought)

it's why target practice was ALWAYS the only 'rhythm method' (had to come with another catholic ideological spank) 03-wink

I want to be clear when I say I'm pro-choice.......in no way am I pro-abortion.....
