Some here may have known him as AustinOwl73. He drove down from Austin for most baseball and football games. Great guy and loyal Owl.

Condolences to those who knew him.

Much too young. I'll miss his smile, even keeled demeanor and clever, dry wit. My thoughts and prayers to Ann and John's family and friends.

As noted in his obituary if you so desire you can make a donation of any amount to the Owl Club in John’s name. It was one of the first things Ann requested be set up.

Very sad news. If Bloomgren turns out to be the real deal, wouldn’t he have enjoyed that?

John not only came down for most home baseball and football games (and occassional MBB games), but he was a reliable road tripper every time we made a bowl or post-season baseball appearance. Some have perceived him as being overly opinionated, especially with regards to politics (something I can certainly relate to!), but you couldn't find a kinder, more generous heart.

RIP, John-- you'll be greatly missed.

That is very sad news. I only knew John from seeing him at football or basketball games but he was always very friendly and we would have great conversations. I also enjoyed his clever and dry wit. He will be missed.

This is a stunner.

If anybody knows the particulars of John's illness and demise, I'd appreciate a PM re same....

I'm very sorry to hear this.

I had the immense pleasure of sitting next to him at a number of baseball and football games. Quite knowledgeable about Rice athletics and Rice, always witty and entertaining, sometimes astringent, and one of the finest Rice alums I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Thoughts and prayers to Ann and his family. He'll be missed.
