Finebaum doesn’t get the credit he deserves for his interviews. It’s the callers on his show that are dumb.

When he doesn't kiss Alabama's ass & tries to remain objective he is good.
The problem is most of the time he is kissing Alabama's ass.

RE: Coach Clark on Finebaum
Going national and moving to North Carolina has had an effect on his Crimson favoritism. While broadcasting out of B'ham, he was blatantly crimson in his outlook and delivery. He was anti AU as well as anti UAB, but appears to be less so now since his employer is now the whole SEC.

Yep. His show would be outstanding if the circus wasn’t a part of it. I can’t stomach the circus so i miss the rest these days.

Or Callaway or McGee. Turns out he was right about McGee, and I should have paid attention, but trying to outwit Neil Callaway on live radio is like kicking a dog.

Understand that Finebaum is responsible for the callers because they could screen them out but choose not to. Also understand that some of those "callers" are people on staff calling in from the control room to start fights during lulls in activity, so they are doing it on purpose. This is one of the industry open secrets that contributes to "the magic of radio," and it's pretty common. It's tempting to paint Finebaum as a victim because his callers are so unbelievably stupid and irritating, but this is an editorial choice on their part.

Pay me Paul Finebaum money and I’ll glad host a three ring circus with fake callers.

RE: Coach Clark on Finebaum
On February 26th, 1981, ten minutes prior to UAB playing South Alabama in the second round game of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Jacksonville, Florida, Paul Finebaum was a rookie Post Herald sports reporter. He was sitting courtside at a table next to Herb Winches. As I passed by, Paul said "Your team is fixing to get drubbed". I replied, "We will see about that". UAB won 86-59. I walked by him after the game. He looked at me and his face turned red as a beet. We smiled. So did Herb. I never respected Paul, or his opinion, after that. He was "SO WRONG".

I wasn’t excusing Finebaum for what his show is. He knows exactly what he is doing and has done to make the show popular. I was merely stating that he is pretty damn good at the part of his job i actually care about.
