I'm in favor of this change. I might even bump up into that lot.

RIP Hanson Field, no parking there anymore. Makes sense to pave Godwin, no more problems with re-parking on rainy days.

Yeah interesting move to close Hanson. I knew Godwin was happening but didn't know about Hanson.

Only thing that really is bad about this for those that tailgate in Godwin is that there is not grass for kids to play football as they do today.

They can still do that in the large areas surrounding the lot.

Yeah, but I think those areas may be used for other activities it sounds like.

The spaces have an extra 6-feet for tailgating purposes. Brilliant.

Hanson is for those activities (at least for next year).

I'm sure there are a lot of good reasons to do this but I am devastated to find out this decision was made. Godwin Field was iconic and something very special. Logistically it may make sense, financially it may make sense, practically it may make sense...but it is hard for me to get behind this decision, even if it is for selfish sentimental reasons. I wasn't around for "The Hill" but I feel like its similar to that decision...sure it makes sense but the idea of never having it again is hard to swallow.

So only 5 home games and a loss of parking exemption. Got it.

+1, as always, very well said Dolley.

you have to blow up the image, but you can see extra yellow lines behind each space.

Remember that at least 356 days out of the year it is parking for campus, and we're about to add a giant new state-of-the-art business school right beside it. I'm sure the Duke Club will lose some donations because of it (though people like Deez may find it more attractive now and up their donations), but the university as a whole won't lose sleep over adding extra spots for their premier (and first named) school. I think the extra tailgating space was probably the compromise for donors.

I really hope JMU decision makers did not consider the 'problem' of having to move tailgaters 1 day every ~3 years when determining what to do with one of the last remaining green spots on campus. That would be truly embarrassing.

I think we should turn The Quad into a parking lot too, its just too expensive to keep the grass looking good. **** this whole time I've been paying a landscaper, I'll just pave the whole yard, it'll be so much more practical.

RE: RIP Godwin Field...
It looks like we are losing 30 spaces off Godwin Field too when its paved over (180 currently, down to 150 when the new design is done.) So greatly reduced grassy space on Godwin with fewer cars parking there, no grass parking on Hanson, and pushing people further away from the stadium. I wonder how the Duke Club levels are going to shift to take into account the reduction in up-close parking.
