Was that the Motor City Bowl with Mo Avery as the QB?

I was a student that year and was covering the team for the Daily Helmsman. I remember asking Fichtner the week of the Houston game if we'd see Mo at QB (b/c Barfield stunk). He's said no. Of course, Mo played the entire game.

We won that game although we tried to give it away at the end.

Deangelo had over 200 yards rushing.

Yeah, I vaguely remember something about a Gatorade bath that was a little premature for Coach West's liking.

Yes, extremely cool game. I remember saying 'they are playing AVERY at QB?!?!?'

My all-time favorite Tigers team. A 3rd string QB and we went bowling AND won!

I still remember we were 4-5 and going to Southern Miss. We pulled off a huge upset/squeaker and the call in show was 'WE are going to a bowl game, you can book it!'.

Then, on Senior Day, we curb stomped Marshall in front of a very, very nice crowd (around 45k) and DeAngelo and Avery came back on the field to lead the band.

I actually made it to Detroit for the bowl game. Awesome game, very depressing area. Absolutely had a blast.

They came way back on us, but we held on for the win. Damn near fumbled the victory formation snap, but their nose tackle got a penalty for interfering with the snap IIRC.

Now THAT would be a great trivia question.

That would be 4th string... if you count converted WR as 4th string. We lost Patrick on the third offensive play of the season. Will was hurt the second or third game. Billy was... not quite ready to be the starting QB and so they switched to Mo.

Every team knew that we were going to run the ball and almost none of them could stop us. We actually finished one game with negative passing yards... and still won. UAB and UCF were the only two games that we lost that didn't come down to our last drive.

Our offensive line was not good. DeAngelo was a stud.

It is fun watching Williams again. We had some great running backs this year, but DW was just from another planet.

It was Akron's first ever bowl. They've only been to one since, in 2015.

Granted, they only joined FBS in the late 1980s.

Man, I would sure love to watch that. Dish says we can watch anything on the ESPN family of channels through the WatchESPN App, but it ain't there.

Correct my memory if I'm wrong, we went
2003 NO Bowl vs. North Texas?
2004 GMAC Bowl vs....Western Michigan?
2005 Akron? And that was it until Fuente right?
