UCA preview
Since we last met, UCA has lost to San Fransisco and beaten California by 17. That's Cal, in the Pac-12, a power conference. By 17 points! During the same stretch we lost to ORU - at home.

They beat Cal from the 3-point line, as you might expect. UCA was 12 of 24 (Jordan was 5 of 10), and Cal was 3 of 13.

It is really unusual to come back to play the same team within 10 days before tournament time, but there you are.

Pretty simple with UCA. If you don't defend the perimeter against them, you lose, even if you are a Power 5 team.

We can thump them with quickness, and we can thump them inside. Pay attention, Mr. Jones! We don't need to try to get into a game of HORSE with them, because we will lose. They are shooting 40.2% from the arc for the season, and we are shooting 24.8%. It does not take a brain surgeon to figure this one out.

Paper says they led Cal by 35 points at one point. That's at Berkley, which is hard to believe. If UCA beat us like that, in Little Rock, everyone on here would have said it was the end of our program. They also took UCLA to overtime in LA. While they have been up and down, those 2 games make me think they have the talent to make a run at the Southland title.

They obviously like playing in the Golden State!

RE: UCA preview
Our chance is that their defense is even worse than ours, especially from the arc.

Actually, our defense over the last three games has been pretty good. We are making significant progress there.

RE: UCA preview
They will have the revenge factor and the home court advantage, but I think we are getting better.

RE: UCA preview
Had my doubts that we could beat them in Little Rock. I have very significant doubts that we can beat them in Conway. Still I'll be there rooting them on. We'll have to play our best game of the year- we played our best game when we beat them the first time, but will definitely have to be better to do it again. Burns is getting better and I am hopeful he will be available tomorrow. I guess we'll find out.

This is a game we ought to win. On paper the two teams are about equal, but we still should have the better overall talent, especially among the bigs.

RE: UCA preview
UCA actually has a very nice little arena. My son-in-law and I saw a game there several years back when they played his alma mater (Tenn Tech).

Based on their performance in California, I would favor UCA in this game. I think a lot will depend on what kind of crowd they get. If they get a decent crowd, that is into the game, I think they will be hard to beat. Seems to me, it is about time that folks in Conway (especially students) show some support for Coach Pennell. I expect us to bring a decent sized contingent to Conway.

Those games usually boil down to coaching. We lose that one.

Either Wes is not teaching them right, or he hasn't gained their attention yet, or we just flat do not have any players. Not sure what. OH, well, it will play itself out before too much longer.

RE: UCA preview
Wadly and Oliver were 0 for 5 between them. So much for taking advantage of our bigs.

Jones is still blasting - and missing - from the 3. 1 of 7.

We did defend the perimeter well. They only shot 20% on threes.

18 turnovers.

Cheer up, Trojan fans. We have Ozarks scheduled this year. We can beat them. Well, maybe.

RE: UCA preview
Here is a sign that a coach is not coaching. A player has taken the second-most attempts from the arc on the team (32) - and has made a whopping FIVE (16%) of them. And yet he is allowed to blast away.

If Wes lasts past next year, then next year will have been pretty good. There is still a chance we will have a Sidneyesque season and he may not survive this year.

We can't use the excuse "We had a bad shooting night" anymore. ALL our nights are bad shooting nights.
