RE: Football Coaching Vacancy
I'm not one to advocate people loosing jobs but this was not a scapegoat...this was a weakness that needed to be addressed. Production at wr has gone down hill the last few years. There were a lot of drops, no one denies that, and maybe you can say you can't coach catching. BUT you can coach route running; which we didn't do well and led to lack of separation. You can coach technique to get off man and press coverage; which we didn't do well and led to lack of separation. You can coach blocking...which led to screens and outside runs that went nowhere.

A lot of things people complained all year about on here boil down to lack of wr production. Losing JD hurt, QB play hurt, but there's also a lot of things that weren't getting better that should have been getting better in practice.

Absolutely.

In the Zohn Burden era our receivers were nothing short of extraordinary;
Their ability to run routes, get seperation, AND, to come back for the ball on extended plays defined our Taylor Heinicke led Spread.
From Nick Mayers to Antonio Vaughan to Larry Pinkard, Zach Pascal, Blair Roberts, Reid Evans, Jonathan Duhart...etc.

Burden was not only an excellent technical coach, but a masterful recruiter.

I assume you're also aware that no school has ever had perfect recruiting; kids bomb all the time. There are excuses and there are reasons. There are reasons we did what we did. Why is Wilder telling the truth so offensive to you?

Definitely not offensive to me, but even during the season BW leans much more towards optimism vs. realism. Also, there does need to be a distinction between complete "telling the truth" and smoke and mirrors. Did injuries affect the year-to-year stagnant play calling? I completely agree that there are countless accounts of recruits not panning out.

What affected the playcalling was a 17 year old QB throwing to WRs that could not create separation.

Like you guys say. what kind of coach are we really going to get for that type of money?

Dont know much about college football and if this is on par with peer schools salaries for similar positions

A less smart-ass answer: you can set the salary chart to filter both by conference and pay. By doing so, you can see CUSA has the highest number of assistant coaches paid less than 60K/year. MAC & Sun Belt and a few others have a few coaches at this level. The lowest paid AAC coach is at 95k, but he's the HC's son so that may be a factor.

TL,DR: $55000-$58000 is near the bottom for any coach in the country, but CUSA has the most at that level.

Here is a google docs spreadsheet of only CUSA assistants so you can sort on whatever field you want without all the other conferences.
Assistant Coaches I wish it told what position they coached.

No doubt it was time to move on with a new receivers coach. Look forward to receivers being able to catch the ball again.
