Not sure if this is good or bad for us yet.

This is bad IMHO. It means that we will have less competing alternatives. ESPiN tells you to play on TUES..You play on TUES!!

I was kind of thinking that too. The less ESPN has control of the better.

On the other hand, does it mean that FAU may be available on the "ESPN Florida"?

When in doubt, assume it will be bad for non cartel and you are usually safe.

It could actualy be good for CUSA. ESPN might see CUSA content as a perfect fit for the newly aquired RSN's. For instance, the CUSA West footprint is a great match for Fox-SW. So, what if you end up with CUSA-West on Fox-SW and ESPN3? Say CUSA East find its way onto Fox-S and Fox-SE as well as ESPN3 (probably would have some of the bigger games on the main ESPN platforms). That would be a much better media set up than the present mish mash of BeiN/ESPN/Stadium/OTA/etc.

I assume all 5 G5 conferences will eventually find out what ESPN wants and will undoubtedly play a role in future alignment in order to maximize their distribution capabilities. They will essentially have all the gold and therefore essentially control all the power.

All hail the benevolent Bristol overlords!!

I don't think that any of the G5,AAC included, will ever get another big money deal again and this is a way of ensuring that.

If it was such a great fit, why weren't we already playing on FSSW?

RE: ESPN potentially buying Fox Regional Network
If you are not getting games picked up by the regional sports channels...

your school is not producing the content.

Western has a channel on Fox Sports (I believe 608) that carries all the basketball games not in the CUSA deal. It's been that way for 15 or so years. The only time it wasn't....last 2 years in the SBC espn would not let Western release games to Fox Sport

ESPN wants schools to produce the games and those that you see on espn3 like the MAC, SBC and a lot of FCS conference. Do just that. A few CUSA schools do not have high enough quality for espn

At what point is ESPN a monopoly (esp. in regards to the bowl games) ?

Nobody has ever gotten mad enough or brave enough but there is plenty of evidence.

You'd think somone like Facebook, Amazon, or even Netflix would jump in at the opportunity.

Right now Sports content is not a sexy pick especially now that ESPiN is losing all that money and all those viewers. Nobody wants to jump into this racket.

RE: ESPN potentially buying Fox Regional Network
If you have Fox [insert regional name here] you've probably seen that they generally have one maybe two games per day on. Usually one game from either Big XII or one game from Pac-12 and sometimes both.

ESPN if so inclined can throw an MTSU game that would have been headed to ESPN3 on to Fox excuse me ESPN Tennessee and draw more viewers than Bob Goes Fishing or whatever usually fills that hole and they've already got it sitting in inventory. A cable subscriber in Arkansas might get A-State, while across the river they are watching Memphis and in Houston they are showing Rice, in San Antonio UTSA, and in Dallas UNT.

Just more ways for ESPN to make money off what they already own.

This sucks for WKU, doubt we keep FCS deal going forward...Although I have noticed this year they are not showing some of the game on FCS on DIrect TV, seems like more inventory than usual on the FCS channels...

that's not exactly what the story says. it's not even what the headline says. it says that disney may be looking at the regionals (as well as other assets from 21st century fox) in order to boost espn, which is having issue galore these days. these are very different things.

espn couldn't buy lunch right now.

ESPN could buy every adult American lunch on one month's revenue.

ESPN is profitable and could lose a lot more subscribers and still be profitable.

ESPN's issue is the ROI has been declining.

espn is laying employees off in droves.

espn is heavily invested in sports content that is devaluing daily.

espn is hemorrhaging subscribers.

in any acquisition involving espn, it would be acquired, not the acquirer.

your god is a false god.
