What are the bowl plans
June and I are planning to come up from Georgia for the game and want to know where everyone is staying.

We were planning the Greek-town Casino but that is the Duke hotel. I know the team hotel is Westin so may end up there. We have never been to Detroit and want to have lots of fun. Drinking and carrying on, not museums etc.

Was planning to attend the brunch but at $100 per couple we can tear one off at a local bar or casino before the game. Would love to get a group together to drink before the game. I assume they serve beer since this is an NFL stadium. And the bus at $50 per couple seems pretty high for a 1/2 mile or mile ride.

Looking to finalize the flight ($250/person) and everything else as soon as possible and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

PS: Wife went to Kennesaw State (FBS) who just defeated No. 3 Jacksonville State at their house. It was crazy the fans that attended. Fraternities set up load music speakers in their quad at 10:30 AM game dame, alumni tent was packed, jello shots from the tailgaters and no one sat down during the whole game. It was a great game day event! Let's have some husky fun no matter what Rod the Bod says !!

RE: What are the bowl plans
I'm from Detroit and currently live nearby.

Greektown (Monroe Street) is filled with bars and Greektown Casino is right off the freeway. The Well and The Baltimore get pretty rowdy sometimes and they don't charge cover. Old Shillelagh is 3 levels and usually charges a $5 cover. There are some other cool bars like Level 2, Firebird, Deluxe, and Three50 Terrace. Greektown is mostly a crowd in their 20's but you get older people as well. There are cops everywhere so it's pretty safe. Granted, there have been a few incidents but now cops are all over Greektown. If you want the best wings around, go to Sweetwater Tavern. There are a ton of cool places to eat around there, especially in Corktown. However, Corktown at night is pretty sketchy so I would only go there during the day.

There was always a large crowd of NIU fans at Chelli's before the MAC championship games. It's literally a block or so from Ford Field. Great food and very reasonable prices on booze. My group will probably end up there again

Thanks for the update. Is the Westin with in walking distance of the Greek town area. Sounds like Greek town is pretty a pretty cool area. Also though about staying at MGM, would you recommend that as an alternative or just suck it up and stay at Greek town Casino and put up with the Duke crowd?

Chellis is always fun and filled with our fans. There is a tram that is real easy and convenient to use. Drops off right by the stadium and chellis and picks up by the hotels. Gm renaissance center is also a nice place.

Is the Westin fairly close to Ford Field/Cheli's? Was thinking about staying at the Westin and would like to go where other NIU fans are, though the Grand Trunk Pub looked kinda good with a large selection of craft beer and didn't seem that far away (in a different direction though).

Nothing better than going to Cheli's for the pregame! NIU fans have literally taken it over at all the MACCs. Fun to take part in Huskie chants, the fight song and booing of opposition fans who walk in the door. It's loud, it's rowdy, but I love it!

If you want something quieter (also boring), then the Alumni Association reception is for you.

Ya'll need to bring the MACtion to Detroit! Very jealous of all of you who can make the game... unfortunately I will be spending Christmas in Louisville with the finance and we have plans we apparently cannot break on the 26th ugh!

Show up, wear red, and bring home a Huskie victory! We need a bowl win....

Go Huskies
