If we had used a stinkin' timeout, it wouldn't have been 51 yards.

Still can't figure out how you get a delay of game penalty on a field goal. Don't you know the play when you come onto the field? I believe we had another penalty on a first down play. Once again, don't we have an idea what we are gonna run when we hit the field?

Guess that's what happens when the head coach has his mind on his big new job . . . 05-stirthepot

He shanked it from 46 anyway.

We have a kicker, he's just a freshman.

He impressed me by not getting down at the start of the year. Even Gostkowski and Elliott weren't Gostkowski and Elliott when they were freshmen, and he's got the physical tools.

RE: We need a kicker
I was upset that he missed the kick. Saw in final season stats that he was 12-16 for the year. Damn.
But make the FG, we win.
I'd still look for one if there is a better one out there.

We didn't go conservative. They were the right play calls. We had an unnecessary block in the back and then UCF made a good play.

The 51 yarder appeared to have plenty of distance, but was just pulled. He made 2 52 yarders vs Houston that were "iced". Just needs experience.

The kid is pretty dang good and will be great. Kickers, especially young ones, aren't perfect.

Guess everyone is forgetting Elliott missing that 48 yard game winner vs undefeated Houston in 2015. It happens. Long field goals are difficult to make, even by great, seasoned kickers.

I hate to say this, but it was really loud and distracting out there, and this is what you are faced with in big-time conference play. We aren't used to it, because we don't play in a big-time conference. Yet. It's getting there.

I think a play to get the ball to the middle of the field would have been smart. A lot of college kickers struggle when they have to kick from an angle

He will be fine. Freshmen kickers are always a roller coaster. Huge improvements coming this offseason.

But we did get a commit from another kicker in Texas this weekend, I believe.

How about the fact about how fast we usually play, there's usually around 18 or so seconds on the clock when everyone is lined up. Norvell slowed down the offense a bit more in this game. Not saying that's what caused it but could have helped.

The game plan was to definitely slow it down. That plus the placement of the play clocks and the home crowd noise, made it tough on us at times. I wish we had stuck with our normal tempo. But then the D may have tired out more at the end.

Coaching is hard!

RE: We need a kicker
We had a shot at a reasonable field goal near the end and understandably called some aggressive plays that pushed us first out of range and then, when we had another chance, back again. We didn't execute great in the last 1:30 or overtime, probably because of what was on the line.
