That would put Norvell around top 50 in the NCAA.

Like I told you........

Not rocket science considering he was at #59 this year.

Hell some folks were saying he was going to get close to $4 million.

Either that number was dug out of an ass or Sexton is a real dolt.

Yeah. Fish one of those kids that likes to pretend he's an insider. He's an "internet insider".

Either way, good day for Memphis. Money is in line with what I would have expected. I'm a little surprised that there wasn't a school out there willing to offer him north of $3 million. Or at least I'm guessing that offer never came. If it did, you have to think he'd take it.

No matter. He'll be at Memphis in 2018.

Fish has been all over this thing.

From the get.

You should thank him for his contributions instead of insulting his intelligence and trying to put a negative spin on a positive situation.

When all the dust settles he could end up closer to 59 than 50. The guys at 51-53 on that list are all getting raises. So is the guy at 56. So did Matt Luke.

He probably ends up at 50...which is perfectly fine for Memphis football.

But, but, but ...

I was called ignorant and foolish for suggesting we should be willing to go to 4 million.

Where are the naysayers now?

I bet Norvell has someone on this board and is giving Sexton a real azz chewing right now--losing out on an extra $1.4 million a year.

Sounds like Sexton was negotiating in the bizarro world.

OK, let's reload. We're losing some solid players, so we need to replace them, but the coaching staff is here.

Due to what's coming back and continuity, I assume the AAC favorites are 1a UCF and 1b UofM

Yep, 2.8 seems LOW BALL.

IMO he is waiting for the right offer and temporarily that offer is Memphis.

He's listening but the right folks weren't talking so he settled for Memphis's lowball offer.

This is the kind of thing that turned Fuente against Bowen.

Would not surprise me if CMN starts talks a bit earlier next season and is out the door at season's close.

What's the buyout, because he can bail at any time. Just because he signed the extension does not make it harder for him to leave.

I think this contract get to $3M or very close to it over the term & provides additional money to assts' pool each year too. But folks have to put this in perspective, Kirby Smart at UGA makes $3.75M. He just won the SEC & is playing in the CFP. Barry Odom comes in at about $2.75M annually at MO. Look at the salary listing of FBS coaches - nothing points to paying a G-5 coach with 2 yrs experience north of $3M regardless of how well he is performing. Aside from Hermann & Frost, I don't recall any G5 coaches getting that kind of money for a P5 job and AR apparently isn't one of those willing to pay either. I'm guessing if AR eventually settles for Morris or Kiffin, it will be right at $3M per year.

That's what it would have cost. The story starts with Gus in play. He was going to Arkansas. Told his family they'd be going. He was on board with Gragg as the AD, as was everyone else. Then they shelfed the Gragg news before the BoT meeting. Malzahn did not like that AD hire, and withdrew from consideration when Auburn agreed to counter. With Malzahn in play, Memphis knew they might have to go up to 4, but Arkansas would not have paid him 3.5 +. If Arkansas hires a guy Malzahn likes, he's the coach there. If Alabama beats Auburn, he's the coach there. At that point, the number Memphis officials were willing to go up to was serious. This number is serious nonetheless. I believe John Martin, who I really dislike, has confirmed that Norvell is the highest G5 coach in the country now.

I agree. With fuente and the first norvell contract, it was $500,000. I'd hope it's much higher.

Ucf had a $3 million buyout on scott frost's contract.

I do wanna say something about two guys on Twitter that show a lot about misinformation. Was gonna let it slide but went back and re-read their posts. Anthony Sain and Issac Simpson, who both have homemade podcasts, spread so much BS it was nauseating.

Board "insiders" erroneously posting numbers like $4-5M is the only reason this would seem low ball. It's a $1M raise and more than any other G5 coach. Nothing low ball about it. And nothing offensive or resentful towards Bowen.
