1. Why does Tubby insist on tactics and lineups that cause us to fall behind in the first half?

2. Why do we shoot so many threes when we are a terrible three point shooting team? The better option is to drive to the basket and hope for foul, offensive rebound, or score.

3. Why in the world does Tubby insist on playing halfcourt basketball with this team? Anyone with eyes can see they are better in transition. Why not press the entire game, trap and try to create turnovers/run on missed opportunities? Hell Tubby goes like 9 deep as is

This team is just like its coach. Sleepy and with no killer instinct

Because, as was painfully obvious to <cough> some back in April that the team might have the numbers but doesn't have the talent.

Tubby, to no one's surprise, is old school and believes in freshman progression. Just look at any of his players from year 1 to 4 and note that frosh just don't really play.

It's clear Tubby has faith in three guys only: Martin, Davenport, and Rivers. Those guys are all getting 30+ minutes a game, or about half the team's minutes a game.

The other 7 (since Azab is apparently so not ready) scrap for the other 100 minutes with Parks and Brewton getting first dibs.

Nickel's minutes this year: 3, 11, 3, 23, 11, 8, and 10.
Enoh: 7, 6, 9, 15, 14, 1, and 3.

Jamal Johnson played 39 minutes in the last game vs. Mercer.

His reward--getting 3 minutes in the 1st half of the Samford game.

I used to kill Pastner for his yo-yo subbing patterns. This is just as confusing.

I'm under no illusion our guys look like an NIT team yet, but they played real hard.

Yes, they have. Say what you will about the talent level, etc., but these guys are giving it. We have seen enough to opine about where this season is headed, but it's still very early and these guys have had very little court time together. Imagine the vibe if they'd lost these tight games. They've been able to pull them out, and I'm rooting like hell for their success. I'm also not blind. We have some issues. But I'm taking it a game at a time.

At the D1 level, effort is a given. It's really noticeable when it's NOT there. Even low D1 players are generally really good basketball players who have worked hard to get where they are.

If the best thing we can say about this team is that they play hard and give effort then that's pretty sad.

I appreciate that the players care and work hard. It is not their fault that they have limited abilities.

The fault lies with Tubby. It is Tubby's job to win at the Tiger standard and he will be woefully short this season unless a near miracle occurs.

These close wins are masking some truly horrendous numbers:

And the KenPom story is also rough. Only good number? 'Luck'

5-2 is still 5-2, so if we improve, it's all still on the table
But this team needs to improve, and in a hurry.

Hmm interesting that they have us projected 18-13 and 8-10 to end the year

That would be enough to keep him for another year I think

I still think 16-15 and 7-11

It also predicts us losing at ECU and swept by UCONN. We are getting 20 wins this season. All 20 wins will be over really, really bad teams and there won't be a single good win so we won't even sniff the NIT.

I don’t think we’re getting 20 wins. But if we do get 20 wins, Tubby will be back.

Jamal Johnson going from 39 minutes to only playing 3 in the first half is dumb. If it wasn’t for Jamal we would have lost to a bull crap team. Tubby is actually extremely lucky that he didn’t lose back to back games against the mighty Mercer Bears and Sanford and Son.
