Ball State women on a roll
The Ball State women's basketball team has opened the season with a record seven consecutive wins. The Cards have beaten teams from the Big East (Butler by 12 at home) and the SEC (Vanderbilt by 9) and the Big 10 (Purdue tonight by 6) both on the road. They also have beaten Missouri State of the MVC. It is now highly possible that they will go into the MAC season undefeated.

The West is looking awfully good. For that matter, so is the East.

RE: Ball State women on a roll
I know we always falsely get our hopes up, but could this be the year we get that elusive at-large bid?

Per realtimerpi, which is currently missing our consolation game with ULaLa, has the mac with RPIs of 20, 32, 60, 67, 70, and 105

Wednesday is another huge day. 4 of our 5 matchups are with teams that are 4-2 or better

Buffalo has been the class of the East so far with wins over Nebraska and Clemson.. Only loss for the Bulls is at nationally-ranked Arizona State.

Are we all going to migrate from MAC MBB to MAC WBB?

MAC MBB has been disappointing to date.

Absolutely. That is the key game now prior to the MAC season. The Hilltoppers are always tough.

From last night:

Quote:Naddiyah Cross hit a three-point shot at the end of regulation, and Kent State outscored Eastern Kentucky 9-0 to start overtime in a 65-57 victory.

Kent State is now 6-3 and has won four games in a row. Eastern Kentucky is 2-5.

RE: Ball State women on a roll
Buffalo wrapped up their out of conference schedule today at 8-2 with a win over St. John's. UB was in the top 20 of the RPI for a while but a loss to a bad Niagara team dropped them a bit. Save for that one misstep I think they put together a non-conference slate worthy of at large consideration with wins over Clemson, Nebraska and now St. John's.

With win over Western Kentucky, Cards move up 8 spots in RPI to 26th, and 13 spots in Realtime RPI to 21st. Cards end pre-conference schedule with perfect, school-record, 11-0 mark. Big MAC opener at home vs Central Michigan on Dec. 30. and then Buffalo Jan. 2.

MAC RPI: Ball State 26, Buffalo 46, Toledo 53, Central Michigan 72, Western Michigan 85, Bowling Green 96.

MAC Realtime RPI: Ball State 21, Buffalo 32, Toledo 64, Western Michigan 77,
Central Michigan 91

I'm kind of hibernating on women's basketball as EMU's program has turned downward, but nevertheless exciting news for MAC WBB.

I'm not looking forward to the EMU/BSU WBB games.

I AM looking forward to the EMU/BSU MBB games.

Realtime RPI brackets show Central Michigan as a 12 seed, Buffalo 11 seed, and Ball State a 7 seed. Has the MAC ever had 3 teams in the big dance?

RE: Ball State women on a roll
It generally takes a 10 or 11 seed to get an at large bid. The MAC clearly has a chance to get two teams into the tournament this time around. Look at last year, though. Buffalo's non-conference record was good enough for consideration as an at-large, but then the Bulls finished 7th in the conference. If Ball State and Buffalo each lose five or six conference games, then we could be looking at just the automatic bid again.

RE: Ball State women on a roll
Yeah Buffalo could get an at large look if they win the league but no sure thing. Wins over 3 P5 teams is great but MAC teams have had big non conf wins before and not gotten at large bids, and none of those 3 are likely tourney teams. Ball St is another story. They deserve to be ranked. Undefeated with a pretty good schedule non conf. If they roll through the MAC with only 2 or 3 losses would have a great resume but the women's NCAA tourney committee is even rougher on mid majors than the men's committee. One year toledo was ranked to finish the season and didn't get in.
