New Seattle U arena approved for 2020
Tweet from @ChrisDaniels5

"BREAKING: @SeattleCouncil votes 7-1 to approve $660m #KeyArena MOU package with @OvgSeattle.

It clears the way for a NEW Arena at Seattle Center by 2020, and potential #NHL franchise.

More details to come on @KING5Seattle."

I think this is mostly an NHL expansion news item.

Not likely to see an NBA team move there. As one respondent put it, nobody is going to spend $2B to buy an NBA team and then move it to an Arena they don't get revenue from -- they wont accept being a renter with that large an investment. And this is assuming any NBA expansion.

Theres a small chance theyd kick SU out but right now they dont have a single winter tenant so why would they? SU has been working diligently to secure a spot in any of the 2 possible arenas that were being built and apparently arent in danger of it happening. Coach Hayford said today he expects SU to play there, via Twitter DM

I doubt SU will rent the arena, it will be way out of their budget for Basketball or Volleyball, and the venue will make much more with concerts

Womens basketball and volleyball already play at the Connolly Complex only. Mens bball splits half/half (around that) at Key Arena and Connolly

Playing at a gym that is smaller than every high school gym in Las Cruces is pretty sad.

Which is why SU plays at Key Arena and likely this new one. Wish theyd just have built an on-campus arena instead of remodeling Conolly

Need to play in an on campus gym. Cross your fingers cause I bet Conolly will have to be your permanent home soon. I also think Chicago State should play all their home games in there 2500 seat gym. Playing in a 6000 seat arena with 200 in attendance must be pretty damn depressing.

Connolly Center is too small with just 1000 seats, as SU averages over 1,400 a game. A 2500-300 seat arena would be perfect, and a good sell for the WCC.
