RE: WBB at St. Bonaventure
This team is definitely at an offensive disadvantage with the starting lineup including St-Fort (not a threat to score outside of 2 feet), McIntyre (not the threat outside of 6 feet), Boyd (doesn't shoot 3s) and Santucci in the shooting funk she is presently in. Nevertheless, if you compare this season's team to some past Cullop teams (e.g. the WNIT champs, and the 29-4 team) they are scoring more points per game, shooting better overall, and on-par from behind the arc. They also have more assists (18 per game which is the highest of any team I have records for) and a 1.04 A/T ratio, which is pretty darn good, despite all the silly turnovers they have had in some games.
Bravo-Harriott is shooting about 35% from 3 for her career, and there have only been about 10 players in UT history that have shot better than that for their careers, and the only ones in recent memory are Ingersol and Jessica Williams. Right now Jay-Ann is 6th all-time in 3FG made.
The thing this team is doing thus far that teams haven't the past few seasons is to play defense. Giving up only 60 points per game. That's the best since the Naama years. Take away the Lousiville game and it is only 55 points. Remains to be seen whether they can keep that up into MAC play, but Cullop has to be happy with that, given how much she focuses on D.

I agree that defense is the strength of the team. The good news is it is easier to be consistent on defense from game to game than to play well every game when you are reliant on your offense.

Boyd is the engine that runs the Rocket machine. She doesn't need to shoot or score because she plays so damn hard and is so quick and intuitive she just effs up everything. Toledo plays best in a semi-chaotic environment-diving for loose balls, tipping out rebounds, hitting lead-out passes on fast breaks, jumping passing lanes and generally not allowing a team to set up their offense. Maine was a great example: forced into a more disciplined offense by the Bears' zone, they neglected defensive principals. When they got back to their heady, hustling defense they pulled even and made up a huge deficit. Boyd is that player even opponents like because she leaves it all on the court in whirling dervish fashion.
