Source confirms Houston VP for intercollegiate athletics Hunter Yurachek will step down to become athletic director at Arkansas. First reported by @FootballScoop.

Interestingly, his first job will be to hire a new Razorback head coach. Truth be told, I dont think he's every really done that--though he has worked closely in the hiring of two. At Coastal Carolina the president pretty much hired the coach when Hunter was there--and the search process that hired Applewhite was largely Timans baby. Mack hired Herman before he left--so he wasnt Hunter's hire.

Can't beat 'em? Have someone from them join you.

Is this Arkansas way of getting back at UH for blowing out their basketball team the other day?

I was never impressed with Yurachek. Not a big loss. We should have no problem getting someone as good, if not better.

Yup! He was very underwhelming and another reason why you don’t hire from within.

He did fine but there was just nothing special or outstanding about his tenure. Even Mack Rhodes got a stadium built and hired a couple of really good coaches.

I basically agree. That said, he did get the IPF built, the basketball practice facilty built, and the basketball arena renovation. He did some decent fund raising. I didnt find him to be very good at energizing the fan base, improving the fan experience, or raising the media profile of the school. I thought he generally did a solid job--but I didnt see him as some HUGE asset. I thought he was thoroughly average.

So is Morris, lol. Every coach in the south is a Jimmy Sexton guy.

Yep - you have a coach for awhile. Gambling isn’t his only vice

Saban, Malzahn and Jimbo Fisher, Willie Taggart, just to name a few. It's not unusual for Sexton to represent the fired coach AND the hired coach (McElwain and Mullen at UF, for example).

Man. I was hoping Gragg would get the job. And for about the same reasons Houston fans are glad Yurachek got the job it seems. Just average at what he's done.

For sure on the area renovation--of course Mack also went over budget on TDECU leaving Hunter short on the arena renovation. Thats why it was delayed. Going from memory, but I believe Hunter pretty much gets credit for the basketball practice facility and IPF--along with making up the shortfall on the arena renovation (Mack had most of the money in place already).

The baseball practice facility is half built, and has been for a while.
