Not getting much for Tyreke, he's on a one year deal.

Not sure I agree. His low contract, $3.3M, actually makes him much easier to trade. since trading partner can easily match his contract with a draft pick. And a lot of potential trade partners don't want to take back future salary.

Firing Chris Wallace would be a start before he drafts some Euro schmuck with the 6th pick.

Who's going to trade a 1st round pick for a half a year rent a player?

Now if you pair his $3.3 with Marc's $23mm, you can get more possibilities.

Didn't say a 1st round pick.

But the obvious answer is one of the 5 or 6 teams who are making a serious run at the title. Someone like Toronto or the Wizards. By the trade deadline, someone like the Raptors will be probably be around 25th or 26th position in June draft. Probably won't change much the final 6 weeks of the season. Teams are much more likely to trade the 26th pick in the upcoming draft, than a future 1st which could be a much higher pick.

Problem with that scenario is the trading team has to match salaries. Will have a tough time finding a contending team willing to give up a high-salaried player that we would want. Do we want Tristan Thompson from the Cavs? 2 years and $36M left after this year. I don't.

Or Valanciunas from the Raptors? Their 1st rounder pick and Valanciunas for Gasol? Tough decision.

Kings, for example, traded Marco Bellinelli straight up to Charlotte for the 22nd pick in the '16 draft, IIRC.

Yes, his low salary is trade friendly, but I still don't see a team giving away a draft pick for a rent-a-player. Maybe you get lucky and a contender has some injury issues and needs a stop gap.

RE: A rebuilding plan for the Grizz
This rent-a-player negative connotation - don't get it. Not having a big contract to absorb is a positive, not a negative. Think you guys are under-estimating Tyreke's trade value.

Just look to last February. Rockets gave up a first to the Lakers to get Lou Williams. Wizards gave up their fist to get Bojan Bogdanovic. Mavs gave up a first and Justin Anderson for Nerlens Noel. Raptors gave up their first and Terrence Ross for Serge Ibaka. Were also several trades for 2nd round picks.

All of those teams were going to be at the end of the first round, with the exception of Dallas, and Dallas had 1-18 protection on their pick, so basically, the deal ended up being for 2 2nds.

I was surprised to see that list though, maybe Tyreke has more value than I thought. Hope so. I'd prefer to try to extend him though. Even if you get a late first rounder, the odds of that pick being better than Tyreke are very small.

That's what I'm saying, end of the 1st round for Tyreke. Or even a '19 1st round pick, since we don't have ours. Would love to extend Tyreke, but don't see it happening, we don't have the cap space.

And better than Tyreke doesn't matter if we are out of it by Feb. 8th. He's a FA at the end of the season, so have to assume he is gone anyway.

RE: A rebuilding plan for the Grizz
Allows us to save a ton of $ over the next couple of years and we stack picks...

Trade #1
MEM trades Mike Conley and Ben McLemore to PHX for Greg Monroe, Jared Dudley, and the rights to MIA 2018 1st Rd. Pick (2018 Top 7 protected, 2019 unprotected)
Why it makes sense for MEM: Grizz get what should be a high 1st Rd. pick and create cap space for the rebuild. Monroe’s contract expires after the season and Dudley would only have 1 year remaining, but his salary decreases for the 2018-19 season.
Why it makes sense for PHX: Suns don’t have a true PG after dealing Bledsoe and there isn’t a sure thing in this year’s draft. Conley gives them a Top 10 NBA PG, still in his prime. They also have two more 2018 1st Rd. picks so letting go of one isn’t the end of the world. Losing Monroe isn’t a big deal either, because the Suns still have Tyson Chandler and 3 other young bigs than need developmental minutes. Dudley and McLemore is a wash.

Trade #2
MEM trades Marc Gasol and James Ennis to ATL for Miles Plumlee, Marco Belinelli, the rights to ATL’s 2018 1st Rd. Pick (2018 Top 3 protected, unprotected in 2019) and the rights to ATL 2019 2nd Rd. Pick
Why it makes sense for MEM: Grizz get what should be a high 1st Rd. pick and a future 2nd Rd. pick while creating cap space for the rebuild. Belinelli’s contract expires after the season and Plumlee is one of the worst contracts in the NBA, but it’s manageable and still allows for us to shed salary after the 2018-19 season.
Why it makes sense for ATL: Atlanta has some nice pieces in place with Schroder and John Collins, but they lack a true center. Marc would fit nicely into Budenholzer’s offense. Also, ATL has 2 other 2018 1st Rd. picks, so losing one isn’t the end of the world when you consider they are getting arguably the best center in the league. Ennis is a throw in to create a roster spot for Kobi Simmons.

Trade #3
MEM trades Tyreke Evans and JaMychal Green to NYK for Lance Thomas and the rights to CHI 2018 2nd Rd. Pick
Why it makes sense for MEM: Sell high on Tyreke and shed Green’s contract. Also you get a Top 35 pick out of the deal, which is what really matters. Lance Thomas is a throw in for salary purposes.
Why it makes sense for NYK: The Knicks are in a battle for a playoff spot in the East. They are also 25th in bench scoring. Adding Tyreke and Green could help them get over the hump. They are selling a 2nd round pick for a playoff spot essentially.

Like the graphs, Hometown, but don't like the trades. Especially 2 & 3.

Re #3, why give away Tyreke and JMyke, who is on a cheap contract, for a terrible contract? Lance Thomas is awful, and has 2 years beyond this year left.

Re #2, again Grizz should never give up best player and take back worst contract. Plumlee might be worst contract in the league beside Yannick Noah.

Conley to Phoenix is interesting. But again overpaying for a mid-lottery pick. If Phoenix dealt us TJ Warren and a bad contract for Mike, that might interest me.

2nd round picks don't matter much to me, they are always for sale on draft day. Would much rather pay $2.5M for pick #40 than take on multi-year bad contracts.

Shows how hard it is to blow it up though.

I'm not a fan of any of the players we get in any of the trades. But I like the picks. And I think that's what we will have to do in order to get good picks.

IMO, Mike and Marc don't have crazy value.

I agree re Mike and Marc trade value, and that is why we keep them for now. They are almost certainly worth more together playing for us, than individually elsewhere.

Our two best trade assets this year are Tyreke and JMyke, if JMyke can consistently regain his form. Kick the tires and see what we can get for them. Maybe get a future 2nd for Brandan, if he can play 20 games without getting hurt.

RE: A rebuilding plan for the Grizz
Most of the teams to take on Marc or Mike's cap space have that cap space because they are also rebuilding. Most of those teams would probably rather hold on to high picks as opposed to trading for a 30+ year old PG (never been an All-Star, etc. etc.) who will be making $34M in a few years and has some injury concerns or a 30+ year old big man when the league seems to be going smaller/faster.

True, Hometown.

Kevin O'Connor, the guy who does the pod for The Ringer with Verno, says that only 5 teams are projected to have cap space next summer.

Any trade with Marc will have to include bring back contracts. To me, the active player who we get back and his contract is more important than the draft pick.
