Gus Bus...
takes UAF for ride. All the local yocals in and out of the media who "know" him, went to church with him, considered him a "friend" etc. all said UAF was his "dream job". Where he always "wanted" to be. Hogs supposedly offered him 50 million for 7 years. They even had me believing that, if Auburn lost last night, he was Fayetteville bound. Instead he used his "friends" in Arkansas to get a big raise and extension at Auburn. Really makes a ton of sense that he stayed, unless you wear razorback red sunglasses.

The local Fox affiliate came on at halftime of the Saints game to say Malzahn was coming to Arkansas. Not sure if they said it was a done deal, but that was my impression. When I started looking online, I saw just the opposite.

RE: Gus Bus...
So the Gus bus ain't coming home. It was loaded with, as you said Mickey, with all the friends, church friends, and fans. One thing you don't have to worry about though, the Wes bus ain't going anywhere. The only ones on it are Wes, you and he AD. Doesn't look like many are on the bus, after looking at the TV clips of the games. Can't believe Conque went from the pent house to the outhouse on his hiring of coaches.

When you bargain from a position of weakness you get played....... Gus and Sexton played us to get better deal. That’s the world of big time college athletics theses days.

The fact that this relatively poor state was ready to pay a football coach 50 million dollars, after paying a coach and AD 15 million to leave, is a sad commentary on what's seen as important in this State.

Oh, Gus played them like a fiddle, and it was brilliant.

He had Sexton feel out Arkansas after Auburn lost to LSU in October, and Gus himself contacted some of his old friends. Mainly as a backup plan because there was some talk that with Jay Jacobs gone, Auburn might dump him. Then Auburn got good and managed to beat Georgia and Bama. Meanwhile, Arkansas decided soon after Gus told them he was interested to run off Long and Bielema to ensure they got Gus.

Gus realizes that with wins over Georgia and Bama, he secures his safety for a bit, and decides correctly that he doesn't want to leave a top 15 job to rebuild a crappy SEC team. Rather than just say no, He and Sexton string Arkansas along, while all the while securing the extension and raise he wanted from Auburn

Now we get to sit back and smile and read about all the Hog fans calling him a traitor to his own state. It's so much fun.

Have to agree with you on that one. I know someone who had some contact with Gus when he was at ASU. Described him as a "weird" dude who really does not relate well to other human beings. But, apparently, he does know his X's and O's.

Gus was very strange when he was here. We loved every minute of it, but he was not the person you hired to go out and spend hours talking to the people in the community. It was part of the reason there was such an urgency to hire Mohajir right after Gus was hired. We needed someone to represent the Athletic Department within the city of Jonesboro. Hugh Freeze had done that when he was here, but Gus couldn't. We needed an AD who was charismatic and willing.

I listened to hog fan after hog fan convinced they knew all about Gus, when the reality is anyone who knows Gus should know by now that he's not the type person to feel deeply loyal to a school or location. If you do good for him, he'll pay you back. He still helps us when we ask, but he's not going to feel some since of loyalty to a place, nor feel like he needs to return home.

All he cares about is football.
