running out the clock

There are several considerations here. Teams in front of us losing is one of those considerations (we are ranked 28th in the coaches poll).

There will be team ranked below that wins and jumps FAU. Maybe not but that is what happened last year for Western. Unless a team is 18 or lower they probably not dropping out. I would say 20 or lower unless those 18 and 19 ranked teams get blowout

Well, who knows, maybe Kiffin sniffs coke off the ass of a co-ed in the half-time of a huge offensive performance and gets all the eyeballs to the FAU team. That may be what was missing for WKU last season.

If it was the best looking ass in the world.....

it would be forgotten by the time the poll comes out. I think playing a early bowl game hurts a borderline top 25 team.

Western vs Memphis had a fairly good rating and with the offensive output got a lot of press leading up to the game. Forgotten a week to two weeks later when most games are being played

We ARE in Florida :)

RE: Is there a chance FAU is ranked after the bowls?
With both San Diego State and Toledo losing in their bowl games today, I think our chances are much better. However, the South Florida win today and Boise State win last Saturday should be a lock for two of those bottom slots.

Two games we really have to watch are:
1. TaxSlayer Bowl on Saturday, December 30th at 12:00pm between Mississippi State and Louisville
2. Hyundai Sun Bowl on Friday, December 29th at 3:00pm between NC State and Arizona State

If Mississippi State wins, they should be a lock. I can't say the same for Louisville, but they could get that slot above us. If NC State losses to Arizona State, they should drop out of contention.

Two other games we should pay attention to are:
3. Outback Bowl on Monday, January 1st at 12:00pm between Michigan and South Carolina
4. Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl on Friday, December 29th at 4:30pm between Northwestern and Kentucky.

Either Michigan or South Carolina could jump ahead of us in a bowl rout. Northwestern could fall lower than us with a big upset by 7-5 Kentucky.

And based off the most recent poll votes received, I don't think Troy's win nor Fresno State's potential win would get them ranked higher than us.

I think we might be able to get that 25th slot. But that's just my opinion.

What do y'all think?

In my opinion FAU is one of the Top 25 teams in the nation.

I agree. FAU is a monster now and hasn't lost since September. They should be ranked.

Army will get votes too after winning 10 games for the second time since 1896 and beating another 10 win team in their bowl game today.

Florida Atlantic will most likely need two of either Virginia Tech, Washington State, or Memphis to drop out in order to get into the final rankings of the AP Top 25 and Coaches' Poll. It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

AP Top 25 - Week 15

18. Michigan State 9-3 (487) WIN
19. Memphis 10-2 (475) LOSS
20. Northwestern 9-3 (398) WIN
21. Washington State 9-3 (342) LOSS
22. Virginia Tech 9-3 (323) LOSS
23. South Florida 9-2 (115) WIN
24. Mississippi State 8-4 (103) WIN
25. Boise State 10-3 (59) WIN
NR NC State 8-4 (54) WIN
NR San Diego State 10-2 (40) LOSS
NR Toledo 10-2 (25) LOSS
NR Louisville 8-4 (11) LOSS
NR Florida Atlantic 10-3 (8) WIN
NR Michigan 8-4 (8)
NR Fresno State 9-4 (6) WIN
NR Missouri 7-5 (3) LOSS
NR Kansas State 7-5 (1) WIN
NR Troy 10-2 (1) WIN

Coaches’ Poll - Week 15

18. Memphis 10-2 (485) LOSS
19. Michigan State 9-3 (474) WIN
20. Northwestern 9-3 (370) WIN
21. Washington State 9-3 (310) LOSS
22. Virginia Tech 9-3 (302) LOSS
23. Mississippi State 8-4 (134) WIN
24. South Florida 9-2 (126) WIN
25. Boise State 10-3 (72) WIN
NR NC State 8-4 (54) WIN
NR San Diego State 10-2 (50) LOSS
NR Florida Atlantic 10-3 (24) WIN
NR Toledo 10-2 (21) LOSS
NR Troy 10-2 (11) WIN
NR Michigan 8-4 (11)
NR Fresno State 9-4 (5) WIN
NR Louisville 8-4 (4) LOSS
NR South Carolina 8-4 (4)

If we do not get ranked, I wonder if there's a chance we are ranked in the pre-season polls next summer.

Florida Atlantic finishes ranked 11th overall in the post-bowl S&P+ rankings; ranked 6th in offense and 53rd in defense. That should be a good predictor looking forward to next season!

SportSource Analytics also has some interesting stats on Florida Atlantic this season:

1. Ranked #2 offense that had scored the most points per offensive possession (second only to Oklahoma).
2. Ranked #3 offense that had most efficient P&10 (behind Oklahoma and Ohio State).
3. Ranked #6 offense that had the highest percentage of big plays as a percent of offensive plays run.
4. The only FBS team that had been the more efficient 1st down team in every game played.
