the big 10 and pac 12 could be on the outside looking in and an undefeated team not even in the debate..or bama is left out who most believe is the best team in the nation...

No kidding. Ideal world is 16 team with all conference earning an automatic bid. The 8 team compromise that gives the P5 automatic and the top G5 an automatic bid is where this playoff going to go.

Using this year we would have 1. Clemson 2. Oklahoma 3. Georgia 4. Ohio State 5. Alabama 6. USC 7. UCF 8. Auburn/Penn State.

Clearly they could seed Alabama ahead of Ohio State and the last at-large over UCF but this solves just about issue with the current playoff and takes the pressure off the committee in terms of selecting teams as five of the spots are automatic bids and the G5 bid should be rather easy to figure out most years as well. This leaves them two spots and seeding.

As I said in another thread post, it could have been as many as 3 P5 conferences left out in the cold if ND had stayed on track with just one loss.

Exactly why I'm rooting for Bama to get that last spot.

If OSU gets left out, then an 8 team playoff will likely happen at the end of the CFB run this time.

I like the idea of a 6 team playoff as you should get something (bye game) for finishing #1 and #2...I also don't think the P5 would go for an 8 team playoff, but they MIGHT go along with 6 teams.

Meh, that brings politics back into the selection process & gives two schools a huge advantage.

Better. But still likely doesn't do anything for us.

It'd be:

#1 Clemson
#2 Oklahoma
#3 Georgia
#4 Ohio State
#5 Bama
#6 USC

I do think UCF would get in with an 8 team playoff though.

I have always said the move to 8 will begin when enough P5's get left out of the playoffs enough times. If the Big10 and Pac12 get left out this year---it will mark the first time when a majority of P5 conferences (3 of 5) have been left out of the playoff at least one time during its 4 years of existence.

A model for a FBS playoff already exists via the FCS. Tweak as required and then done.

So does that mean the PAC-12 and B1G make less money? Because that’s the only way things change.

I said last night Bama would get the nod. Ohio St. needed to BLOW Aisconsin out as they did in 2014. The vitriol is both understandable and to be expected. Only thing for the P5 to do is EXPAND and it will be done. Done by 2018 IMO.

Doesn't matter if they hung 70 on them. Bama was always in.

ESPN Radio is openly mocking the AAC and the Power 6 campaign. A lot of people are going to be in for a rude awakening with contract negotiations.

Someone needs to email the conference about this.

LOL

This is nothing more than a Southern Invitational bracket.

SEC gets two teams in while the 14 members have yet to win a game vs. a team from the Pac 12, Big Ten, or even the American.

If anyone tries to tell you the SEC is the best, just show them the last week of regular season results when there's the SEC-ACC challenge.

Florida State beat Florida easily in Gainesville
Clemson went to South Carolina and humiliated the Gamecocks.
Louisville went to Lexington and punched Kentucky in the mouth.
Only Georgia managed to win; beating a Georgia Tech team with a losing record.

Oh Saban....

"P5 teams should only play 12 P5 games per year."

We know how Saban would schedule his quality P5 OOC games:

Rutgers
Oregon State
Kansas
Syracuse

Saban could easily do that now, but he instead chooses to play.

Mercer
Fresno St.
Colorado St.

Remember he was also complaining a few year ago about the spread offense being dangerous because more plays equals more chance of injury. Nevermind that his style of coaching and his schemes are week to fast teams that run the spread. So what did the NCAA do? Made a rule change that allows defenses a chance to sub out players if the offense subs, which negates the entire premise of uptempo offenses. He's just a whiner, and he's learned that if he whines enough and makes a big enough scene the NCAA will cower to him. I have absolutely no respect for that man.

I do think UCF would get in with an 8 team playoff though.

The most fair way would obviously be a 16 team playoff, or at least 10. Eight teams would be better than the current system. A compromise to give each "P5" conference a representative, one "G5", and 2 at-large.

The major roadblock is ESPN and the bowls. As Stewart Mandel from Fox Sports wrote:
Based on numerous conversations with ESPN execs in recent years, the playoff’s TV partner feels the same way. Yes, it’s got a $7.3 billion investment in the CFP, but it’s spent even more billions than that on rights deals with the five power conferences. And they’re contingent on the stakes of all those regular-season showdowns remaining the same.

ESPN and the Cartel 5 aren't giving up billions of dollars voluntarily. The money involved makes the Adidas scandal look like a very tiny drop in a very big bucket. Sadly, all ten FBS conferences and the FBS Independents agreed to this sorry state of affairs. Therefore legislative or judicial action is likely not an option. Additionally, the contract for a four-team playoff runs through 2026. I don't see how it could happen before then.
