RE: Toledo's defense stands tall in MAC title game
Indeed! When the offense scores that many points it’s easy to look past the D, but I’d say that the Rocket defense was absolutely dialed in for a good 90% of that game. I think the targeting call against Ola made some guys a bit hesitant down the stretch, and then Akron picked on our subs a bit towards the end. But this was a 7 point game after the first quarter...D really did a nice job not letting Akron get confident and that bought some time for our offense to get on track.
Biggest surprise of the season for me was the play of that Rocket D down the stretch. Only bad outing was Ohio, and a lot of that was due to the offense not moving the ball, losing the field position battle, and making the defense face a punishing run game for 8+ plays a drive. We figured the offense would score points this season, but the defense upheld their end of the deal as well.

I said midseason that individually we probably didnt have an all MAC player, but our no name defense was fun to watch. I was mostly right, but it was a joy to watch this no-name defense stifle teams this season. They got better and saved tbe best for last. I hope they used the all MAC snub as motivation.
