Next year has to be one of those 9-10 win seasons. Crappy OOC schedule outside of Bama, we don't play Troy in league. If we don't win 9-10 games, it's going to set off major alarm bells.

Tonight is more tolerable if we don't screw the pooch in Mobile, because Troy is very good. However we screwed up...and now we pay for it.

No. App won their side of the conference. They get the #2 slot. We had two opportunities to ice the deal by either beating South or Troy. We didn't do it. And next year all this horse poop stops so we can find out who really belongs.

Just because you guys both played terribly against a 4-8 USA team doesn't mean that you should punish us for not playing them. Arkansas State has one win against a bowl eligible team. At least we have two.

It all depends on when you play, anything could happen. On paper USA is not better than either Troy or stAte , but they won.
I do think Troy was the best team in the Belt. I think stAte was capable of being the best team but made too many mistakes over the season. 2 teams got a trophy this year and I don't think App is giving theirs back.

Looking forward to the next couple of years and a championship game. Should be fun.

Nobody's "punishing" anyone. We have a conference championship and a win over a ranked LSU and tough ARKST squad. Our losses are to a ranked MWC champion in Boise and a South Alabama team known for pulling off great upsets right after we beat LSU for our programs biggest win ever. I just don't think you guys would beat us this year.

South Alabama beating ARKST is a game I don't hold that much against them simply because of the weirdness of that program under Joey Jones. Losing to them is much more understandable than losing to UMASS and ULM in back to back weeks. I don't think APPs offense matches up very well with ARKST's defense. We were able to win the game with a kick return for a TD (we are #1 nationally), and red zone defense (also #1 nationally, by a somewhat wide margin).

Again, just my opinion, but I don't think you'd beat them this year. We all get to duke it out next year, so there's that.

I don't know if we would beat you either (I certainly think we have a good chance though). You guys were the best team in the Sun Belt this year. I just don't really get the narrative that Arkansas State has a better resume. The UMass game was bad, but with as banged up as we were (top three running backs out), it's understandable. Either way, it doesn't matter. The standings are the only power ratings at this point.

Neither A State or App set the world on fire with their wins, but App did beat a team with a winning record. AState's loss to USA and App's to ULM are basically a wash and if not for the loss to UMass I'd say App's L's were to better teams.

Having the #1 red zone defense and #1 kick return game in the country aren't gifts from Arkansas State. We won that game by doing things we do well. We are a Top 10 scoring defense and despite them having good field position most of the game, we held them to 25 (13 in the first 57 minutes!). They were scoring 40+ a game and ranked #8 in scoring offense before they played us. We were also 5th in the nation in run defense. You might get some yards bombing away, but when you get in the red zone, you're options are limited vs Troy, and you're not likely to come away with lots of points. We stopped them on 4th down inside the red zone and picked him off inside the red zone. When we did get some nicely packaged gifts we were sure to take them home. That's what good teams do, and most simply don't cash in. We did.

We had as many miscues and "gifts" if not more. The difference is our team welcomed Santa Claus with milk and cookies and Blake Anderson sent his ass packing. We cashed in on their mistakes, they didn't cash in ours. Simple as that.

You play who you play. This is the last season where more than one team can be champion. Without App playing Troy or State, you can't say definitively that they aren't better than those two teams; you also can't say they are not as good.

State is the salty 3rd place team but due to the new alignment, you'll always be the top of the West division.

Champions don’t have to justify their place just get sized for their rings.

Absolute classless thread. Everyone is entitled to their opinions but in some cases it just makes you a better person to keep your mouth shut. I've always known that Ark State fans are passionate about their team but to try to lessen another team's Conference Championship because they were left out and need an ego boost to feel better about themselves is an absolutely garbage thing to do. I always expect Ark State fans to talk trash and try to get under your skin but I never expected this much classlessness from them. Sorry you lost, keep thinking whatever you want, we get a trophy and you don't.
