Albuquerque, El Paso and Tucson are very similar not just culturally but weather wise as well. If I have to choose a December trip to one of those three, I'd choose Tucson. Albuquerque and El Paso can get really cold with possible snow. When Miami and Wazzu played in the Sun Bowl in 2015, it was snowing for at least half the game.

That's the thing- as a native northerner living in Baton Rouge, i badly miss snow. :)

NMSU already played in NM's stadium this year. The seniors and juniors have played there twice. I think they would rather out of state to a place they've never been.

Also, when the Sun Belt wants to trade it down the road to avoid sending a Coastal Carolina or Georgia State out that far, filling it this year gives them more leverage.

It also sets up a rematch of their last (1960) bowl game, which likely makes it an even higher profile media story ... plus they won that bowl game, which isn't something they'll mind seeing mentioned.

What a great way for NMSU to end their SBC tenure. I hope they can find success as an independent and eventually a conference invite will present itself.
