So you're cool with him leaving before the NY6 game?

I can see not being mad about him leaving. That's just G5 life. But leaving before a premier bowl game sucks.

coaching with lame duck status is a hard one to pull off though.

ucf either needs to promote from within or hire someone immediately and have them coach the team with 4 weeks to prepare. treat it like an additional spring practice and hit the ground running when the next season starts.

You’re right - leaving before bowl games is a huge problem. Schools either need to write contract to prohibit early leaving for another job or the NCAA needs to put a freeze on when coaches can be hired. In the end though you can’t blame the coach, he is subject to the rules at play.

I doubt the NCAA has the balls to restrict coaching movement in the interest of the game. I think it’s up to the AAC member to put contractual restrictions in place. As a league, we’re in a sweet spot - our league is meaningful and our coaches are proven commodities.

In the end, you can’t blame Frost, it’s just the game the NCAA allows to happen.

RE: I am not mad at Frost
My only issue with Frost is that we're undefeated and he'd be leaving the season unfinished. If we were 10-2 or even 11-1, then I'd get it completely but undefeated seasons are so rare that I think it's wrong to leave with that on the line. Knowing Nebraska, that job would be open again in another 2-3 years anyway and he could be their savior then.

I may be off on this, but I think Strong is so low because he's still getting paid from Texas.

Meh.

Am I the only one that didn't like his answer after the game today? The one about I want to talk to my players first and I wanted to finish my commitment?

Dude, you didn't do either. If the deal was leaked during the game you had obviously talked to Nebraska first and last time I checked, the biggest game in UCF history is left to play.

I know I hold people in my life to a higher standard.

I would hope he told his players first. You can't fault him for taking the job, its his dream job and a lot of money. Nebraska has to hire a coach....but if he didn't' tell his players first that would be classless. Im sure he did.

What he actually said was, "I want to go be with my players".

I am talking about later, at the press conference. He was asked a direct question about going to Nebraska and he answered with "I want to tell my players first."

As the late great Pete Burns would say, he wants his cake and eat it.

This has happened three times to Cincinnati. When Dantonio quit before the bowl, Kelly stepped up and won the bowl game. Butch Jones did not coach the team even though he had been hired and we were drubbed. When Flubbs was hired for Butch Jones before the Belk Bowl, he did not participate, but we did win. However, it is more of a testament to the players than anything else. It helps to have the new coach prepare for the bowl
