Absolutely well deserved. Great season.

Nice that Woodside got one to equal Bruce's.

RE: MAC FOTBALL CHAMPS!!!!!!
Right on Northcoast!!!! Woodside joins the ranks of some great former UT championship QB's!!!!

This years D, the consistency of the offense, depth (no drop-off after loss of Thompson), & improved offensive line play to close season are the major reasons we have a TROPHY!!!

GO ROCKETS!!

I'll also nominate a VASTLY improved secondary as a major reason for UT's success in 2017

We have repeatedly let bad teams score late with sloppy play. I'm not bcunn but I'll play one on the board: disappointing finish but great win!

RE: MAC FOTBALL CHAMPS!!!!!!
Very happy for the players, coaches and long suffering fans who have watched their team get oh so close, time and again.

Nice crowd numbers but dead. The small band at the Alumni breakfast was fun but the full on band in the stadium, dead and yeah I can see why the BG people were picking on it. Be kind of embarassing but I don't think they actualy show the halftimes on tv anymore so I suppose it doesn't matter.

Fun stadium, my first time in an NFL stadium but no Glassbowl. I don't usually miss those steep steps but seeing how hard it is to watch a game with those shallow seats.... My seating was pretty much useless for anyone wanting to watch the game, so I mostly roamed around. Detroit people are very friendly. Everyone working the stadium very nice. Didn't hesitate to approach and direct me to wherever I was lost getting to.

The buffet put up for the Alumni Assoc was very good, need to track down some of those sausages but I expect they didn't expect so many fans. Ran out of things, took a bit to replenish, meanwhile there was a full buffet one floor down that they didn't tell anyone about. Suppose I could have gone upstairs and mentioned it but I was busy eating.

Watching an ESPN/Replay/Review game is brutal. I was begging it to end. Glad I got to see an NFL stadium and UT win the MACC but quite honestly, can't see me doing it again.

I was so pissed that we let up that last touchdown. Overall sloppy 2nd half of play. But we're MAC champs baby!!

Congratulations Toledo. So glad you won. It's been 13 long years since you last went to Detroit.
No group of fans deserve it more than you guys.
Really happy you beat Akron.
Good job!
Goodluck for your Bowl game.

RE: MAC FOTBALL CHAMPS!!!!!!
Should not take four hours to play a game. Obviously an ESPN creation

But I am so stoked for a championship

When there is a play under review, that should automatically be one of the TV timeouts. When a player is down with an injury, that should also be an automatic TV timeout (a long a there are still TV timeout left).

There should also be some common sense with the game play - with under :20 left in the 3rd quarter, UT has run a run play, then Akron had a player down with an injury. He was down like 3 minutes. E$PN didn't use a TV timeout since they had used all their TV timeout for the quarter. After the player got up, UT let the clock run out without running another play, THEN E$PN went to a commercial. Why not just ask UT if they were going to run another play, and if they were not, then let the quarter end, even with the player still on the field.

RE: MAC FOTBALL CHAMPS!!!!!!
Coach Bowden had his own little contribution to the stretching. But then how do you tell your team it's time to let the clock run and not compete? Got a little peeved at that last TO though.

Got to a point it was more relaxing to sit in general admission and watch the game on the video board.

RE: MAC FOTBALL CHAMPS!!!!!!
Over the past several years I have enjoying watching some very talented players but up until this year the Holy Grail of a MACC eluded them, so this team is special in that they are the MAC Champions and that alone makes this a special group. The fact is that they are so talented that they could normally play over penalties, lapses, early red zone meltdowns, mistakes and multiple injuries and still go 11-2 with a chance still out there to collect a 12th victory and thus match he record number of season wins set in Ealey era. The only thing this team lacked was the ability to execute consistently on all aspects of the game for an entire game. The 2000 team was the best executing team I can remember watching-----there were very, very few dropped passes, missed blocks or missed tackles, very few penalties and an extremely favorable turnover margin. Woodside is a remarkable QB and holds most of the important records but I still think that the 2000 Rockets were the "best" Rocket team in terms of playing up to their potential game after game although in the end, one slight misstep and they did not win the MAC and thus achieve their overall potential..... nor did they get a bowl invitation even though they finished 10-1 and were ranked at the time of the bowl selections.

RE: MAC FOTBALL CHAMPS!!!!!!
yeah, the 2000 team was special. this is a special season though. in some ways I wonder what if we hadn't lost thompson and so many key players to major injuries. then, I realize this is the team that stepped up and found a way to not just overcome but become more cohesive as a result. real championship energy on this team. lots of contributions. nobody who folded under the pressure.

You think 2000 was better at playing to potential than the Ealey led teams? Those guys executed very well. To watch them when they got behind (WMU and Villanova in 1971, for example) was like watching a coaching video or reading a textbook. They just didn’t make mistakes. That 2000 Team was also awfully good but.... they did one thing no Ealey Team ever did.

I arrived in Toledo in 1975 and thus missed the Ealey era. In my post above, I was only considering Rockets teams that I personally saw play so unfortunately that excludes the 35-0 Ealey era-----still, without having seen them play, I will venture to say that from an overall, bottom line perspective, 35-0 is about as close to perfection as one can get over a span of three seasons 03-wink

I almost asked if you missed those halcyon days but since I’m one of the youngest guys on the board I always assume everyone is older than I. You must still be wet behind the ears. 03-wink.
