I was looking forward to Quinton Flowers and Mike Norvell not being in the AAC next year. Memphis will be a force to deal with for a while.

Wish their schedule would upgrade. Obviously not their fault. Would be nice to see them play Tennessee every year.
I would be fine not playing those ******** ever again in any sport. We are 400 miles apart. Nothing really in common with them geographically other than inhabiting different extremities of an abnormally shaped state. If we are going to play regional SEC teams, I'd rather play Ole Miss, Mississippi State, or Missouri.
Arkansas can go to hell too.
Mizzou vs Memphis rivalry might be ideal. I know a ton of Mizzou frats that have formals/semi's in Memphis. And their fans travel pretty well to Vandy. Throw in the basketball and mascot dynamic and it makes a lot of sense.
We played them in basketball quite a bit in the 80s/90s. Had a football series in the late 90s as well. Start a new football series with them next year.

That wont happen. They only want to schedule Memphis when we are really down. Postponed a game or 2 back around 2003-ish when Memphis had Wimprine, Deangelo, etc and UT sucked. They ducked us in basketball throughout the 1980s but want to get a series going when we have clowns like Pastner.
Identical dynamic between us and ChicKUn except maybe even slightly worse.

I think Wichita State fans problem is that they’ve been isolated for so long they think they are unique in everything
In some states, the state universities actually operate like they have half a brain scheduling each other. The state of Iowa would be a fine example of this. Iowa, Iowa State and Northern Iowa all play each other on a consistent basis.

I'm pretty sure the Mississippi legislature used to force Ole Miss and Miss State to play Southern Miss every year, not sure when that ended.

Ha. I doubt 70, but I get what you are talking about. The problem is, you would not be able to stop us either. I think it would be a good game, and the fact that we run the ball well, would keep the score down a bit.
Seriously though, how much are you losing? Who will be the QB?
QB is the big question. If Norvell stays, he will likely bring in another Juco QB, or a transfer from Ole Miss, perhaps.
Other big loss is WR Anthony Miller, but we are deep at that position.
Losing other WRs Mayhue and Proctor, but still plenty to replace them.
Losing one starter on O line, and one in the 2 deep.
On defense, we are losing a great LB in Genard Avery, a good S in Jonathan Cook, another good LB in Shareef White, a backup D lineman (Slaughter), and that's about it for the whole 2 deep. We also may gain 2-3 players with a 6th year due to injury.
Most of our best players are FR and Sophs. We should have a deep roster for the next 2 years.
Biggest issues are replacing Riley Ferguson and retaining Norvell.
But we should be good for the next 2 years, assuming we find a serviceable QB. Right now, we have little used David Moore, but I imagine someone will show up from elsewhere to win the starting job.
Thanks. Could be the AAC favorites next year?
If Norvell stays and we find a QB, I would say West favorites to UCF's East favorites, especially if they get Sumlin. And UCF as AAC favorites.
lol...reverse psychcology. No.. you are the favorites to win the CG. In all seriousness, it is hard to predict how the UCF players will adapt to the new coach.

I’d rather play Penn State, if that’s ok with you.

RE: Memphis 2018
I think we will be a little more run heavy. David Moore is probably a better runner than Ferguson. Darrell Henderson (1100 yds, 9TDs, 9 ypc for the season!) and Patrick Taylor (800 yds, 13 TDs, 6 ypc) both return behind 4 OL starters with 4 star redshirt Eze (6'8 305)probably taking that 5th spot. Not to mention, I've heard from 2 or 3 different people that saw practices who say that redshirt Tim Taylor is said to be a better RB than either of those 2. Oh, and when he isn't leading the nation in kick returns, Tony Pollard is back to get some touches out of the backfield as well.
So pumped for the Liberty Bowl, cant wait until next season, and excited about what the future holds now that the school is seriously investing in the program. I believe with all my heart that the day is coming where 9-10 win seasons will be the norm, and we'll be putting 50,000- 55,000 in the stands most every week.

When their stadium was a dump, Ole Miss used to play home games in Memphis against Tennessee and Arkansas. Memphis-Ole Miss have played 60 something games against each other. There's a lot of history with Ole Miss and the city of Memphis and the University of Memphis. Last I checked OM has a branch campus in the Memphis suburbs.

There are probably 6 or so programs where 10 Win seasons are norm

Almost happened in NC, not every year, but NC State and UNC seemed to get the message once the bill was proposed

Years ago that is what happened in TN to get UTK to even schedule Memphis for its first meeting in 1968. But since UTK has reneged on a game owed Memphis under an existing contract & refuses to schedule additional games, it's probably done unless UTK continues to have recruiting problems in the Memphis area & wants to play in Memphis to help recruiting. That will also take an improved UTK program on the field & hopes the Memphis program tails off.
