We already had the NM tie in. I think we traded AF to guarantee the Frisco slot as well as somehow getting MT into Camellia.
That makes sense. So UTSA got left at the alter to help MTSU and LT?
We helped ourselves by beating you and showing well at DFW bowls 2 of the past 3 years.

Would love to hear the trading for CUSA/Middle Tennessee to get the MAC’s spot in the Camellia. The MAC had 5 teams in with 7+ wins with 2 more at 6-6...and both those 6 win teams stayed home.
CUSA got 9 of 10
MAC got 5 of 7
Not a bad deal since I believe we had 6 primary and 2 secondary. Would’ve been interesting to see who would’ve taken New Mexico St’s place had they lost yesterday or declined for financial reasons.
It was the AAC being the typical AAC. Temple got word they were headed to Boca to play FAU, decided they in no way in hell wanted to play FAU, and managed to talk ESPN into getting them out.
MAC is always willing to send a team to Florida, so Akron got sent there. Camellia had a really bad matchup originally with Akron and AState, and was very willing to plug in MTSU/AState because both fan bases will be more interested and travel for that.
The real interesting watch was with Arizona. Arizona had NMSU locked in as the Sun Belt team. Utah State was supposed to be the MWC rep, but ESPN asked Zona to trade out Utah State for UTSA. Zona had no desire to trade out for UTSA and said no way. Thus UTSA got left out.
But Temple has a marginal bowl qualifying record this year; how did they have that kind of leverage?
In any event, hope we all have another successful Bowl Season.
Temple had no leverage...AAC had leverage. They used it. It got Memphis into Liberty.
I think you guys may be looking into this a bit too hard. There were 3 teams that had to be left out. MWC and SBC Both filled their allotments with zero extras. AAC didn't have enough. CUSA and MAC both went over. It was always going to be a war to see which league had only one left out and which had two left out.
If the trade with Camelia doesn't happen, there's a decent chance MTSU and UTSA both get left out. Instead, just UTSA got screwed. In the end, a CUSA team was always going to be screwed over.
When it comes to Temple and the AAC bowls I think there isnt much to the mystery. When we got the Liberty that put us short teams. St Pete is one of our annual bowl ties and it pays more than Boca. So St Pete was always going to be filled before Boca.

I'm willing to bet USM has an alum of ill repute in its history.

We act like fans of a Conference Champion with a 10-3 records on a 9-0 winning streak. And the only season that matters is the current one. We could be on a 150 game losing streak prior to the season, it would not have mattered.
If FAU wanted another CUSA bowl and was told no then there should be outrage from fans. But if this was the choice of FAU I can understand message board fans being upset. But FAU made that choice. Lets not forget...
you are 40 minutes away and I believe only made 1 home game this season. As I said in that thread...family time is more important. But if that was the case....
being disappointed with who you play, I understand. Being upset when no matter who FAU was playing you were probably not going. Well...I don't see why. Maybe that's why FAU chose to stay home.
Memories of the 2011 Southern Miss Bowl selection. Won CUSA CHAMPIONSHIP has pick of any bowl. Coaches and players picked Hawaii over Dallas against Penn State. Fans were/still pissed.
Correction there...coaches chose Hawaii. Players wanted Heart of Dallas vs Penn St so their families could attend. Coaches won out.
Players had no say in the matter. Was with some of them when the news came out. Fedora thought it would be a reward to the players for a great season, since most of the guys on the team would never get that type of opportunity again. Nice idea, but poor decision still.
With that said, I've talked with a few of the guys who were on that team and they're fine with how it inevitably played out. Fedora was right, most would never be able to go to Hawaii, and they got to. They were disappointed initially, but the trip was actually great for the players at the end of the day.
I don't like the decision as a fan and I still don't, but I don't think Fedora had bad intentions when he chose it.

it was chosen because the hawaii bowl was before christmas, and the ticket city bowl was after new years, and lfed wanted to blow town as soon as he possibly could and get to his new gig. hawaii saved him tons of time.
the whole "poor little mississippi kids won't ever get another chance to go to hawaii" fairy tale was to assuage his guilty conscience because he fingerbanged us bloody on his way out the door.
