Yeah. I remember it well. FSU was a perennial Bottom 10 club back then. We actually had a Rice HC in that era that was a FSU head coach refugee.

And he left us for the NFL.

FSU was a rising power. See the following from Wikipedia for FSU under Peterson.

1960 Florida State 3–6–1
1961 Florida State 4–5–1
1962 Florida State 4–3–3
1963 Florida State 4–5–1
1964 Florida State 9–1–1 W Gator ranked 11
1965 Florida State 4–5–1
1966 Florida State 6–5 L Sun
1967 Florida State 7–2–2 T Gator ranked 15
1968 Florida State 8–3 L Peach ranked 14
1969 Florida State 6–3–1
1970 Florida State 7–4

Doesn't look like bottom 10 to me. They were independent much like those red people across town......

In 1967, Rice was a good enough job to attract the interest of Tommy Prothro of #2 UCLA and Ray Graves of Florida.

Footballgeography.com lists FSU as the worst team in college football in 1974.
Rice claimed that dubious honor in '77, '82,'83 and '88.

Yeah, and that is around the time that FSU went out and got Bobby Bowden. FSU had been a program on the rise until then, and after Bowden arrived, FSU continued to rise. At the dawn of the '80s, the Seminoles played in the Orange Bowl against Oklahoma two years in a row, with an outside shot at the national title each time.

I always felt a little bit bad for Bowden, because FSU really laid the groundwork for the Florida football boom. Miami stole FSU's thunder in a big, big way on the first day of 1984.
