RE: 12/2 AAC Basketball Games
This will sound stupid to people who live in places like Wichita, but the two biggest things holding us back are 1) traffic and 2) not being good enough.
If you live and work outside the loop (the majority of the region), it can take well over an hour to get to a midweek game. People aren't going to deal with that hassle when the product is bad. We were offering mediocre at best basketball and a horrible venue. Hofheinz had become a real dump with broken seats, old bathrooms, terrible concessions, and no atmosphere.

It’s funny, while our crowds are usually really good, they ALWAYS arrive late, and the excuse is ALWAYS traffic. It is next to impossible for people living in the suburbs to get off work and make it to Moody by 7:00pm. But five to ten minutes into the game it will be full.

Wichita State has some of the best fan support in the country which tends to skew some of our fans’ perspectives. Selling out a 7k arena is good as far as college basketball goes.

I understand the traffic issue up to a point. But Houston proper and the Houston metro area have so many freaking people, aren't there plenty of fans close enough that traffic isn't an issue for them?

Even as an opposing fan, I had much respect for Houston during the Phi Slamma years.

Then I heard it was recently renovated. YIKES! There has to be an incredible amount of pessimism about attendance to renovate a gym that size and leave the seating at that number. That place wouldn't hold what we just got for a freaking volleyball game.
Duke doesn't fit your point very well.

I always thought one problem with fan support in places like Houston is despite the fact that it has a huge population, a lot of that has been immigration, particularly foreign. Not sure if newcomers from New York or Nigeria have much interest in Cougars sports.

There are hundreds of thousands of people living near UH but those folks also live adjacent to Minute Maid (Astros), Toyota Center (Rockets), Dynamo Stadium, NRG (Texans), Rice, Texas Southern, HBU, and the restaurant/bar scene of downtown, midtown, Montrose, EaDo, Washington Ave, the Heights, Upper Kirby, and Uptown.
The last time UH won an NCAA tournament game was 1984. We're a couple of years away from not only were our current students not born yet, but their parents might not have been either.

1)Very, very happy to be selected to compete in the AAC. I hope our conference mates feel WSU is holding up their end of the bargain so far.
2)Not for nothing, but Valley 3 AAC 0 so far this year. SMH
3) Valley RPI 6 AAC RPI 8 RSMFH
Those numbers won't keep but still.
Ahahahahaha DOC! I figured you were operating under an alias. The Shocks could use another enforcer on here... (maybe we are all trolls)
