We're 3-2 with wins over New Orleans, Northern KY, and Little Rock. What do you mean?

I don't like sesame seeds any way! It just goes to show the importance of hiring the right coach at the right time. You know, kinda like Cincinnati football.

That win vs the Northern KY Bearcats is a good one.

Very well might be our best win of the season when all is said and done.

The expectation level for the Tiger program varies by Tiger fan, but for me it involves NCAA Tourney appearances in most years (and victories to a lesser extent) and an occasional S16 or better. Fortunately, the infrastructure is in place for success. We just need the right coach.

Hey, BC#1, you guys can have basketball. We'll take football.

Wanna talk some crap about football? Good thing you missed us this year. Tell me again the score in the UC-ECU game, and then the ECU-Memphis game? 03-lmfao

I fully appreciate the need to use the Red Herring ploy (UC Football jabs) by some in this thread. Its how you cope with basically having no real answer or input to the real issue at hand: namely, the catastrophic fall Memphis hoops has experienced in the last few years.

Why did it happen?
How come you couldnt see that Pastner sucked sooner?
Why old man river Tubby Smith!?!?!?!?

and so forth...

How come you couldnt see that Pastner sucked sooner?
Why old man river Tubby Smith!?!?!?!?

and so forth...

Why didn't you put it like that the first time, instead of the juvenile way you presented it?

1. It happened b/c Pastner tanked the program, and was eventually run off. He had 5 decent years, but never made the S16, then his last two were a disaster. He actually left the program in worse shape then did Calipari when he left.

We had no recruits coming in, and something like 10 4 and 5 star players transferred out in the last 18 months or so of Pastner's tenure.

2. Pastner didn't suck until Year 6 of 7. At the end of Year 6, Rudd, the fairly new president, privately said he didn't want to fire Pastner "after one bad season." So we suffered through one more.

Then, we ran him off to Ga Tech. and hired Tubby. Last year, Tubby's first, was blown up in large part by the Lawsons. daddy Lawson didn't follow Pastner to Ga Tech, and wanted to keep his assistant's job. But Tubby wanted his own staff. So he hired Lawson back as a DBO, and gave him a slight raise over his assistant';s salary.

But that didn't make Lawson happy enough, so he and his sons sabotaged the end of our season by palying to pad their stats, so Daddy could shop them around for a better deal for himself. Caused a huge rift with our other good player, Markel Crawford. Team lost 6 of last 7, after starting 18-7.

Sure enough, Daddy got a deal at Kansas for both Lawsosn, their two younger sone who are better, and perhaps their cousin. Nothing ever public on what it took to get them, but you can bet good money changed hands. Hopefully, the FBI gets involved.

Anyway, the whole team transferred out, due to all the turmoil, except 2 guys, so we had to recruit a bunch of Jucos to supplement the 3 freshmen and 2 returnees.

So Tubby is basically starting over in Year 2.

3. We hired Tubby b/c we were trying to get into the Big 12 at the time. Pastner had a clean rep, which the Big 12 liked. When he left, Tubby applied, and if anything, he has a clean rep. Plus, he asked for the job, not us contacting him.

May not work out. If it keeps up like this, Tubby may go after the season. But if Rudd stays consistent to how he handled Pastner, he probably will give Tubby one more year after this one. Just a guess.

So, it may be 2 more years before we dump Tubby and start over again, so don't look for us to help much for awhile yet.

Meanwhile, try to get your football program back on track, lol.

Who is "you"? I certainly did. A lot of us did. But I'm not the AD, and I wasn't the one who had to pay his buy-out.

I'd say he sucked before then. He just had good enough players to mask his lack of coaching skill.

I mean you can quip about our football if you want. It's deserved after self-inflicted punishment of Tubs, but at least our football program has a pretty clear path ahead back to relevance. I'm not sure I can say the same about Memphis basketball at the moment...

Memphis fans in October:

"Yeah dude this league is gonna be so wide open, I can see us finishing anywhere between 3rd to 9th place. Now that we've got rid of those cancerous Lawson twins we're gonna just gonna win games left and right due to our improved team chemistry."

Last year was undoubtedly bad and they're on thin ice this season, but UConn has been the most successful basketball program in the conference so far.

That's really not saying much. This conference has struggled in the tournament and you and i know that we have declined since the big east. We have a 2 good years in the conference. The title yeAr and the other tournament year. That year UConn could have made a little run in the tournament but had the misfortune of running into Kansas early.

LOL. Have to laugh to keep from crying.
This is by far the worst and lowest point in recent history.
Even Cal bolting for Kentucky left a little hope, with the players that stayed.

What is worse, if somehow or someway Tubby is removed, the choices for interim coach are Saul, BAM Joe, and Pooh.
This is sad.
