The only real ads are the annoying Pepsi commercials.

I have to say, I LOVED watching the game on Facebook through Stadium. No comercials, and the announcers were pretty good. They filled timeout time with interviews and stories. It was well done in my opinion.

I know that doesn't help attendance.

It was the among the best video feeds that I have received.

Try free pizza. Usually a nationally televised game gets out the Greeks so they can be seen on TV looking at their phones.

Have we ever tried reverse psychology? Made prospective fans think we didn't want them at the game. They might show up then.

Closest we have done to that is shutting down football

RE: Ways to market our teams- basketball attendance
The entire marketing issue is hampered by the regular prices of season tickets. Its too high for the product on the floor.
It wouldn't be if we were top 50 every year but it is for being in the #18 conference.

Heavy discounting is needed to get people in the seats but doing that alienates those who pay full price.

Those that give large donations to get prime seats don't want to sit with the riff raff when they do come to games. Which hurts the idea of letting people come down after the twelve minute mark or whatever.

All this to say its complicated and there are no easy solutions.

Students were there. Without the students it would have really looked bad. That said that was the most this year. Free food seems to work.

If they(big money season ticket holders)know they need to attend games(or have tickets used) in order to avoid having their seats in the area opened up to general admission, they may attend more games. If attendance helped season ticket holders improve their seating in the future, maybe more attendance would result. The best net effect is more people would have a chance to sit in better seats and improving the electricity in Bartow and they may aspire to donate money in order to get those seats in the future. Electric atmosphere can help sell tickets too. Current ticket scanning system should show which tickets were used.

Over the past 12 years our conference strength has declined tremendously and we’ve only made 2 NCAA tournament appearances. People aren’t scrambling to buy tickets to what we are offering. Unless one or both of those things change, it will be more of the same.

If you take away seats that people have paid for for years, they will take the thousands of dollars that they donate and spend it somewhere else. I damn sure would. Put me out of seats that I've paid for and sat in for years and I'll fold my remaining tickets into a bunch of sharp points and deliver them to the AD and offer him extensive instructions as to where he can stuff them.

Alienating your donors is dumb. We're not UK or Louisville, with a perennially sold out arena and a waiting list to buy season tickets. We need the money more than we need to make people who pay for a GA seat all happy to sit courtside.

Fill in the empty seats at eight minutes or halftime? Okay. Tell people they can no longer buy the seasons that they have had for years? You're nuts. Makes no sense whatsoever.

RE: Ways to market our teams- basketball attendance
A couple of years ago, I was at a game with my son. He's a loud, obnoxious, stand up and yell fan who still acts like he's in the student section. I ran into a good friend at halftime. She had to leave and offered me her ticket stubs in the Frozen 100 so we could sit there for the second half. We settled in, happy as clams.

Second half starts, and we're up and down a lot. Standing and cheering, giving the refs hell, the usual active fan behavior. After maybe ten minutes, the old guy sitting behind me says "You guys are going to have to sit down so the people behind you can see. Those aren't your seats, I know damn well they aren't".

Normally I'd have said something on the order of "Down in front is not a cheer" and kept on keeping on, but the guy was Tom Williams. Tom Williams with the multiple car dealerships, who gives UAB thousands of dollars on a regular basis and advertises with UAB to boot. I sat down, and told my kid to be polite and deal with it or move back to our season ticket spot if he wanted to stand and scream.

Pissing off the big donors is just dumb. I could have told him to suck it, but you have to respect someone who has been donating his money (in much bigger quantities than I will ever be able to) for years.

Ideas like that is why these threads are dumb. Most of the ideas is not how to improve attendance, but how to get themselves better seats without paying more

RE: Ways to market our teams- basketball attendance
I agree to some degree, but I have no way to know where Notnow's season tickets are. Or if he buys them, for that matter.

We've discussed the empty seats in the Frozen 100 every year that I've been on the board. Empty seats there detract from the home court advantage and look awful on television. It would be better if those seats were full of screaming students the way they are at Duke. At the risk of pointing out the obvious, we're not Duke.

I really don't have a problem with letting the upper deck migrate down at halftime or something on that order. Talking about screwing with people's season tickets, particularly when they pay hundreds or thousands extra in scholarship donations for them, that's just nuts.

RE: Ways to market our teams- basketball attendance
Years ago when Gene was AD, during a particularly poorly attended game, Gene waived everyone down to the lower level and then at half time, I think the announcer told everyone it was ok to come on down. I don't think it was a snow day, maybe just bitterly cold. And it might have been a TV game.

A few years after that, a reporter, Tim Stephens, had told me by email to come down and say hi and I tried to do that at half time only to be stopped by the ushers. I told them I would come back up after a few minutes. The answer was still no.

Depends on the usher, especially at halftime.

Tim moved back to Birmingham recently.

Middle Tennessee’s next four games are against Vandy, Ole Miss, Auburn, and Princeton. The Ole Miss game is a home game for MT.

Schedule has greatly declined, but let's not sell ourself short on NCAA appearances. From 2005-2016 (last 12 years), we've had 4 NCAA tournaments and won a first round game in two of those.

There was free full moon for students before the Memphis game.
