Again, this is another reason why CUSA needs leadership that's got the cajones (no pun intended) to hammer this out. There's absolutely no reason for there to be THIS much ambiguity with our conference bowls. This is why I created a bowl discussion thread a few weeks ago asking all the way-ifs/whos/whens/buts. There isn't anything official/legal on CUSA's website that answers these questions. Is this type of transparency that hard??? #firejudy

What's worse is that our coach and AD told us that they wanted the best opponent available and that was NIU. Which technically may have been correct, but for all intents and purposes, Illinois was the best team out there as it gave us a chance to beat a P5 convincingly in a year we had not played one. Total **** show. But I think the real reason was they wanted a regional school in the HoD and were afraid MU wouldn't being enough peeps. Playing Illinois would have had Herd fans crawling out of the woodwork, smelling blood in the water.

I think it was going to be tough for Marshall. It was noon the day after Christmas. Your fans would basically have to spend Christmas in dallas. I don’t know about you, but that wouldn’t fly in my family. We had our normal Christmas and drove over the next morning. If roles were reversed and it were Tech wanting to be in a Florida Bowl the morning after Christmas...I’d be watching on tv.

South Florida is just as far to us as East Texas, logistically. It's gonna be a plane ride. The only difference is we probably have more alumni in the Florida area than Texas, but for the WV traveler it's 6 on one hand half dozen on the other.

Question is would you have had 25k+ Marshall fans in Cotton Bowl Stadium at noon on December 26th? If not it's a bad deal for the bowl.

The point is that the CUSA champ picking their bowl is an illusion. And you've just reinforced that point. And it's not a bad deal for any bowl, anyway. You do know that we have to buy a substantial allotment of tickets whether we sell them or not? All bowls are like this. It's why a lot of schools lose money on bowl games, but the bowls don't. But none of that matters. If the champs get to choose a bowl then they should be able to pick anyone they want and I don't believe that's happening based on our experience in 2014. We aren't sending 25k to Florida or any other bowl we've ever been to, except maybe 1999, and Tech isn't sending 25k to any bowl that isn't right next to them and nowhere near that this year even if it is. To say otherwise would be very disingenuous.

That’s what I’ve been saying. I don’t believe you had a chance to pick HOD. And if FSU goes to the Indy Bowl, I don’t believe FAU will have an option to play them. Unless we come up with another Bowl close by, they’ll take a Florida Bowl and say it was their first choice.

Two years ago I would’ve expected WKU to want to play Washington in Dallas but it was USM. I expect UNT to get their choice of the western bowls this time around.

But we all know a lot of things can change. I feel the Indy Bowl is a 50/50 chance for USM. Definitely will be an ACC opponent. Probably Duke, FSU, or Boston College. Whoever gets this bowl from CUSA be it us, LT, UTSA, UNT....we HAVE to win. Wins vs P5s carry a lot of weight going for improving CUSA's perception.

ESPN has it projected as FAU/FSU or USM/FSU.
