I keep hearing #USF likely bound for Military Bowl or a game with a secondary AAC tie-in (i.e. Liberty, Independence). We'll probably know well before Sunday's bowl selection show.
How trustworthy is this beat? I would think that the conference would be obliged to fill all of its primary tie-ins before any secondaries. Even if by some massive screwjob, UCF/Memphis is left out of the NY6, the AAC only has seven eligible teams and seven tie-ins. I'd be interested to see the structure of the Indy Bowl's contracts with each conference.
My guesses:
Military: South Florida vs. Florida State
Independence: North Texas vs. Duke
Liberty: West Virginia vs. UCLA or Utah

RE: 11/26 bowl projections
The AAC has a clause where secondary ties or swaps can supersede primaries. They've done it before and left lower tier bowls unfulfilled. Since the inception of the champ game, both partcipants have ended the year ranked in the CFP. Looks likely again this year. Both will get P5 opponents. As USF is ranked in two polls, they will probably play a power school if at all possible as well.

Multiple sources tell me that Memphis could wind up playing a Big 12 opponent in the Liberty Bowl on Dec 30th.
Relative shortage of bowl-eligible SEC teams could allow the Liberty Bowl to flex in the local Tigers.

Would it be normal to get to play at home like that?

It would be a first as the Tigers have never played in the local bowl game.

RE: 11/26 bowl projections
Both ESPN guys are projecting FAU to New Mexico Bowl vs. SDSU on Dec. 16. That makes absolutely no sense to me. First off, even if we lose the conference championship game, don't we, basically, get to punch our own ticket (Lane Train and what not)? Secondly, an at worst a 9-4 record can't move our bowl game later than December 16?
For the record, I do not mind SDSU as an opponent. I mind such an early indiscreet bowl.

Boise State used to do it a lot. Hawaii still does.

I would rather sit at home and stick tooth picks in my eyes than go back to the Armed Forces Bowl and play an academy.

Worked out good for us last year.
