MyBB Who should ECU go after now that Lebo is gone?
I've seen some suggest FGCU (already been down that road) & NCCU HCs & even a desperate Rick Pitino. There's a report out that former NCSU coach Mark Gottfried is interested in the position. Who are the realistic coaches ECU should be trying to bring in for interviews?

I know we have never been good but considering the notoriety and exposure in this conference coupled with the low expectations at ECU actually makes this an attractive position. If someone takes us to the tourney we might go ahead build them a statue. Eastern NC is also not a bad place to live these days. We're only an hour away from Raleigh/ Triangle area. We are also close to a lot of great beaches. The cost of living is perhaps the lowest in the country. You gotta think that now is the time to lure a quality &/or 'big name' coach.

If you are asking me for realistic candidates my list is pretty short. I call Joe Dooley and say I want to right the wrong of the late 90's and make him tell me no. If he tells me no I go to Moton at Central who I am a really big fan of. I've heard from more than a few people that he has expressed interest in the ECU job and thinks ECU is a place you can win at. If ECU pulls 1 of those guys I'd consider it a gigantic win.

Hopefully the AD is prepared with a very short list of candidates and their current numbers.

You must not know much about our AD.

Compher has had two big hires. One that was a slam dunk choice and we would’ve rioted if it didn’t happen and Mo. If Dooley and/or Moton express interest then this will be like Cliff, if neither of them are interested then it’s going to be a crapshoot.

My ideal choice is Pitino though. Let’s Larry Brown this shite!

You should totally hire Doug Goatlube. Do that and you make your games with WSU instant rivalries.

I like your whole list & Tom Crean in particular would be a HR hire, although could we realistically pull that off? Guess it doesn't hurt to try.

This was my April Fool's thread:
(03-31-2017 11:48 PM)mikeinoki Wrote:  In a surprise announcement, ECU athletic director, Jeff Compher has announced that Jeff Lebo will be retiring, citing health issues. According to the ECU athletic department's website, the school is currently in negotiations with former Indiana coach Tom Crean, who is expected to interview tomorrow. An extensive article can be found on the website of the Greenville Gazette.

So okay, am I a prophet? Tom Cream is 51, working for ESPN and has a head coaching record of 356–231 (.606).

Problem is that we don't own any full sized Brinks trucks. People are less than impressed when we show up in a Honda Fit with Brinks stickers on the side.

I am hoping ECU hires a name to help bring real players in.

Pulling for Tom Crean or Seth Greenberg.

Dino Gaudio took over Skip Prosser's 15-16 team at Wake and went 61-31 in 3 seasons. His 2nd went to the NCAA and his 3rd went to the 2nd round. Then he was fired in a Ruffinesque manner. It took Wake 7 years to get back to "competing for championships."

Pros: Winning record at Wake, NCAA appearances
Cons: No ACC tournament wins, only 3 winning seasons as a head coach (out of 10), out of coaching since 2010
Other: 60 years old
Verdict: Out of coaching too long. Backup candidate only.
