I'd like some proof of this. Right now I think you are Miko33 level trolling.

Sorry bud. All I can say is from a source in the WAC office that they inquired. This was some time back. I remember reading it on another message board about a year ago as well and then heard it from friend in WAC office who no longer works there so that's why I'm posting it now.

Well, good news for the conference assuming it has merit.

I don't know how much merit but I know I was told by a reliable source. Take it with a grain of salt because I haven't heard anything since. I know at this point the WAC can't be picky and Academy of Art at one point was hurting financially but are now prospering financially.

RE: The WAC's Next Move
Well, I would THINK that autobid is just too big a carrot to be allowed to go away. There's gotta' be another school SOMEPLACE out west who thinks they can rise via the WAC route if nothing else.
Someone here or another forum I was browsing mentioned Fresno Pacific (my sister's alma mater). That would be cool! But, according to them FPU has issues with funding DII and is considering going back to NAIA. According to Wikipedia, about 2,700 undergrads.

Know somebody who graduated from there. They have the funds to make the move up, but the students don't care about sports.

They are DIIi so they would need to transition to DII, wait five more years, and than they could go DI. Don't think the WAC wants to wait 8 years.

RE: The WAC's Next Move
Will be run off the board for this, but WAC FBS is coming back. UCDavis and Cal Poly will join for FB, and that's why Bake and UCSD got invites because the Big West was informed that they are leaving. Sac St will leave the Big Sky and join too. From Texas, Sam Houston St, Lamar, S F Austin, and Incarnate Word will join and UTRGV will add football as they already have an FBS stadium. fBS will be back just as Cameron Dollar and the old NMSU mbb said it would.
Cal Baptist, UVU, and Seattle will jump to a depleted Big Sky, they don't have to add fb, in another round of musical chairs.
It's why GCU got interest from the Horizon, why more DII schools haven't been added, why UMKC is looking at adding football, why Chicago St is looking at adding football but only has one year left on their contract. These moves have been planned for years.
The WAC will have a true SW footprint, although the California schools won't be in it for long if they have a choice in the matter (kicking on the MWC door down the road).

Ok. I'll bite. When. You have been saying this for years. What you are saying makes no sense. If this IS true Grand Canyon needs to add football.

GCU provides a reasonable travel partner for Cal Poly. The WAC will have non football schools just like the Sun belt. GCU can think about getting an FBS team later.
The WAC can make FBS invites right now so it makes tremendous financial sense. Those schools won't get an invite from the Belt or MWC and all have FBS aspirations,

RE: The WAC's Next Move
The problem with the "WAC needs to add FBS" is that I suspect Idaho has decided to just walk away from FBS regardless. The Belt expulsion was just likely an excuse for their admin.
So there's just NMSU now.
If UC-Davis and Poly are moving up, that's news to their fans.
Lamar would LOVE to move up. They are the only team in the Southland that really wants to. SHSU is not interested in FBS football. Now it is true that there are four former Southland schools in the Belt that have banded together to block an other Southland schools from joining. But I just don't see anyone else who would pull the trigger.
If the WAC could credibly get a FBS conference up and running...then the teams that would apply would be
Lamar
Jacksonville State
EKU
UMass
Start to see a problem here? All of them but Lamar would be football onlies. Perhaps with LU and NMSU you could cobble together a FBS conference. But it would be kind of rough sledding for a while.
So, I suppose that you could get Idaho (assuming they'd wish to reconsider moving down - which their admin doesn't), retain NMSU, and add Lamar as well. So that would be two schools you could get for all sports.

Can you imagine how much younger he looked when he first postulated a version of this theory?
I’m not trying to be a dick, it’s just funny how ferverantly he believes it.

The even funnier thing is how much we all thought he was a lunatic for his WAC football theory, and then it turned out he was right, the WAC really was attempting to recreate football with their eastern wac scheme at time.

One just doesn't decide to become FBS and move up the next day. But some like you think so. It's a five year process and I'm off by one year.
UCDavis has been taking donations for an expanded FBS stadium. They want and need to go big time.

You simply have no business sense. The WAC had enormous clout with FCS programs, but Idaho and Settle vetoed them.

This year the fb schools will announce a move. FBS transitions may be later but finish in time for a seat on the upcoming CFP negotiations. That is why college President see $ signs and want in but going FBS now doesn't have the CFP payout as the WAC lost out the last time.
