MAC Awards
http://getsomemaction.com/news/2017/11/2...wards.aspx

Sutton Smith, defensive POY. Hooray!
Marcus Childers, freshman POY. Lousy vs. CMU, but we'll take it.
Logan Woodside, Vern Smith Award. Best player on best team. Deserved it.

1st team: Smith, Scharping, Wimann, Lurry. Congrats!

RE: MAC Awards
These awards are a joke. One quick example...Jawuan Johnson getting absolutely hosed. A comparison of stats just between Jawuan (3rd team) and 2nd teamer Chad Moore from Ohio...

Johnson - 86 total tackles (53 solo), 13.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 5 INTs, 3 forced fumbles
Moore - 72 total tackles (37 solo), 4.5 TFL, 1 sack, 3 INT, 2 forced fumbles

That's not even debatable and is embarrassing

Agreed about Jawaun. Not to mention his two pick 6's.

RE: MAC Awards
Jim Jones, Kent State 98 tackles (52 solo), 8 TFL 6 sacks, 1FF
Ulysees Gilbert, Akron 117 tackles (57 solo), 8.5 TFL 4 sacks 2 INT, 0 FF

Outside of those guys having a few more tackles, i'd argue JJ was definitely more of the impact player when it comes to TFL, INTs and defensive TDS/ Hosed

This is unbelievable. NIU should bring this to the attention of the illustrious MAC selection committee (if one actually exists). Johnson should be closer to the MAC Defensive Player of the Year (behind Smith), not 3rd team!

Absolutely. That's pathetic though. Naturally the article doesn't mention who votes on it...I'm assuming it's coaches rather than media? Some conferences have both coaches and media vote.

RE: MAC Awards
I posted on the main board, there were some bad ones IMO too. My CMU complaints:
1) Roback over Morris for 3rd team is ridiculous....Morris literally is better in every single category except completion %.
2) Ward led the MAC RBs in total yards yet was 2nd team, not a huge complaint though.
3) Conklin is the MACs best TE, 2nd in yards, 2nd in TDs, 3rd in receptions and missed 5 games but only 3rd team? Then again maybe Wimann is a great blocker? Maybe they viewed him as 1st team because Conklin didn't provide value for 5 games?
4) Bunting our DB was 2nd in the MAC in INTs with 5 and had a defensive TD....nowhere on the list.
5) Josh Cox was 2nd in the nation in INTs and wasn't 1st team.

Strange list and every team will have complaints. But just to add to your list as well because CMU fans are kinda pissed.

And pass up all that national publicity of our ESPN games? No way! Never!! What are our millions of fans across the country going to do? They will all need psychiatric help (some already do). Bars across the nation will lose business and be forced to close up.

Awards for individuals in a team sport are an opinion. Maybe a collective opinion, but still just an opinion. If Jawuan Johnson helps his team win the MAC Championship next year, or if he goes on to play professionally, then he can have the last laugh if anyone even remembers or cares at that point who won the award this year.

What is a joke is posters here getting all bent out of shape about what amounts to just an opinion.

Woodside ranks 13th nationally, while his 24 touchdown passes also leads the MAC and ranks tied for 24th in the country. (From the MAC Conference web site).

Sutton Smith leads the nation in both sacks and tackles for loss, (14 sacks and 28.5 tackles for loss). That is first team All American stats!

Smith massively deserves it over Woodside!!!
